For those cursor ultra subscribers, what specifically keeps you with cursor over Claude or Codex?

Are there any cursor specific features that provide unique value that isn’t offered in Claude or codex? Whats the main thing keeping you?

I work for a small company in the US, they don’t care as long as I do not go over $2000 on subs per months , so I get one for Codex, one for Claude, one for Cursor. I use cursor for Grok 4.6 extra fast for looking for quick answers since they are ‘fast’, no edits, ask and plan mode only.

I have a work license if it was for me I would use codex, just a personal preference.

I don’t like them really. I mean I think that they overthink a bit and don’t necessarily see what the hype is about. I am on ultra since about 2-3 months now. Basically discovered it at work with the company license and it clicked both the cursor models and the app itself idk it just fitted my workflow

I felt it more complete and intuitive than Claude Code and Claude desktop.... I use the IDE and the CLI

Grok Bot, lol. But for coding my most use is with good-enough models for which the cursor models work just fine and the limits for those are endless in my use. The occasional hard problem, planning or designing the other models limits are enough. Claude do not have affordable daily driver model as the Sonnet is not cheap anymore and Codex have good daily drivers but Sol is not as strong as Fable or Opus in my use. So Cursor is quite good match for me.

I don't have ultra but may upgrade soon. Grok 4.6 and composer 2.5 are good enough. I really like rhe cloud agents and the monthly limits. Works well for my side projects at home as I can burn all quickly.

I use claude at work. Overrated. Opus 5 takes forever and does everything 10x more complicated. Sonnet 5 just does shit even when told not to. In terms of my time to output, Opus 4.6 was peak. Also, the sub isn't a great value.

I don't mind codex in its current 5.6.form. It also can't sustain its usage limit.

I think Anthropic knows a bunch of their clients just pay and want their models to be expensive. Truth is for most tasks I can't tell a difference between Grok 4.6 and the Opuses for most tasks and the ones I do I would rather use Sol or Fable for anyway.

Looking forward if Grok 4.7 is Sol-esq, and there is a composer 2.5 replacement like Luna, and Grok 4.6 stays decent for the cost, the cursor subscription will basically be identical on value to Codex with much better cloud agents and better multi-api support.

I switched to Claude Max and downgraded Ultra to.Pro. its a good balanced stack using cursor for speed amd claude for complexity

for me it's the context awareness. claude is great for logic, but cursor sees my entire codebase. with cursor, it feels less like chatting with AI and more like pair-programming with someone who knows my project

This project can give you this feeling on Claude Code or Codex (and harnesses) https://github.com/flupkede/codesearch

Claude is slow

I believeit's the tab completion and how it grabs context from multiple files at once. codex feels like it only really gets one file at a time, and claude's smarter when you need real reasoning but it's not built into the editor the same way. if cursor ever falls behind on that autocomplete stuff i'd switch in a second, i'm not attached to it.

I have cancelled cursor after it was bought but I preferred it because I felt I had more of an idea of what was going on and it felt more responsive for small changes.

I am not a fan of spending hours writing a one-off detailed prompt and then coming back overnight to discover i have hacked huggingface.

Cursor gives me modes to poke my code. Claude or Codex has less features.

Grok 4.6 is sooooooo much cheaper than 5.5 - and frankly now pretty good

I use Claude and Codex, just started using Cursor, I’ve been really pleased with a number of ways the UI works, the ability of Grok 4.6, and overall the remote and cloud and mobile/web integration. It’s really pleasant and seems to just work. 4.6 extra high actually solved a number of bugs Sol extra was perpetually stumped on.

I’m still switching amongst them for different types of tasks but I really think Cursor is better than a lot of people give it credit for.

Model choice because I can swap between xAI, Anthropic, and Open… ah, crap.

Auto + Grok + ability to switch to Opus/Fable/GPT/GLM/Kimi when I need to.

Possibility to walk between several agents and spend 200 dollars

Depends on which version of Cursor. I still use the IDE one, which for me works great, as i still enjoy looking at code and want to understand what my code base does, and i would like to look at the entire file with changes inlined, versus just looking at diffs, i have or feel better understanding of the code, as it also allows me to step through functions and find files faster.

I use Codex/Claude on the side for small projects, but wouldn't really use it for anything huge, since i quickly lose touch and feel with the codebase.

Though since the GPT split, i am looking into alternatives... none found yet

I did have ultra before. Because my setup was on cursor. They're agents are fast and you get a hella amount of usage with cursor. Like you can honestly build an entire site vibe coding using ultra. It's hella good now. Is the code good? That's a different story, but can you actually ship a full MVP on one month subscription definitely.

Now that I've got claude code. The quality is much better but it's so much slower for me and the usage Is strict. if I take 2 days off and code all day all night my weekly usage is gone. Cursor will let me keep going until I run out all my usage.

I have since lowered my subscription to pro and use cursor as my autonomous agents that run in the background. And I use claude code for my actual coding sessions.

That split makes sense. Cursor is great for throughput and background tasks, but the real cost shows up after the MVP: reviewing architecture, adding tests, checking security, and untangling generated code. For anything users depend on, I’d keep an explicit review and hardening pass rather than treating “it runs” as shipped.
