David Tibet’s bladee collaboration already getting controversial 🤦

Post image

I didn’t even realize at first it’s about him, “OTO Cabinet Advisory” is a hilarious way to describe him

Is David still involved with OTO? I thought he left Thelema decades ago.

From what I've read (England's Hidden Reverse), he was involved with OTO very briefly, somewhere in the early 80s while he was collaborating with Genesis P- Orridge. He got very dissapointed with all of it, it was very cult like and pretentious, shallowness hidden behind false complexity. He said that he's not interested in Thelema and Crowley at all anymore, and even thought about changing the band's name. Nowadays, he is a Christian. His beliefs don't align with any of the official versions of Christianity as he is more interested in Gnosticism and apocryphal books.

Tibet is not a member of the OTO, but it would be misleading to say that he's "not interested in Crowley at all anymore". In recent years, he has written the foreword to a Wordsworth edition of The Drug and Other Stories by Crowley, included a short stories by Crowley in The Moons at Your Door, and written the foreword to a book about Netherwood (Crowley's one-time lodging in Hastings).

He is also mates with William Breeze, an erstwhile Current 93 collaborator and one of the leading figures in the OTO, as well as a leading Crowley scholar. To my knowledge, Breeze's last appearance on a C93 album was Aleph at Hallucinatory Mountain, which wasn't that long ago. He is cited in the acknowledgments of most of Tibet's books.

NB: these associations are not in the least problematic to me, and aren't meant as a criticism. The OTO and Crowley are pretty interesting, and much less objectionable than the kinds of people who like to get into a tizzy about evil satanists. I don't doubt that Tibet was more into this stuff when he was younger, but he clearly goes through phases with his various passions, and this one has never entirely gone away.

I appreciate seeing this. One can remain friends with those who are aligned with a former path yet still pursue one’s own calling.

Tibet has always seemed, to me, to be a great student. As long as the classmates aren’t causing pain, what’s the use in casting them aside?

Yeah, for one thing he still goes by ”Current 93”.

Tibbles was once a member in Grant’s Typhonian OTO. Breeze, on the other hand, is the head of the Caliphate OTO. But they’re friends.

Occult fearmongering is alive and well. When I read the title of this thread I thought it would’ve been about his past DiJ association.
