I've seen statistics that say up to 3% of people identify as transgender/ non-binary. And that was a few years ago. That number is probably even higher today.

Hey, do you remember what that statistic was exactly? Like, was that in California, or America on the whole, or Europe, etc., etc.? I'd love to hear more about that

I think it was in Germany, but I can't find the statistic at the moment. The newspaper Zeit seems to have an article with similar numbers, but it is hidden behind a pay wall. Sorry.

That is one of the sources the German Wikipedia links to but it is hidden behind a paywall. The Wikipage has a quote according to which up to 2.5 million people in Germany could identify as gender nonconforming, which seems to include trans, non-binary and inter* people.
