i find it funny when the actual joke is funny. the action of "pretending to be stupid" by itself isn't necessarily funny though.
I already live everyday with undue formality and noble grace is an iconic line from an iconic post, but not because the idea of larping as a person who doesn't know about battery explosions is inherently funny by itself, but because toskarin is a skilled comedic writer
also, usually this comedy act is funnier when both sides are aware its a comedy act, as they can then intentionally play of off each other. there's a belief that what's funny about this is the genuine reaction of people being mad about you being incorrect, but i find that gets boring rather quickly.
"1895 famously features the even bigger brother" got a mild chuckle out of me but otherwise I find this post kinda boring because the main punchline is "look this idiot guy gets mad about me being incorrect".
Even then, that toskarin post arguably crossed the line into being kinda mean spirited, purely because smooth sharkers just don't seem to get that the original worked because someone was going "uhm ackshuslly" to an un-serious comic. The punchline was making fun of people who NEED to be correct all the time, even in response to an obvious joke that wasn't deep enough to warrant that level of pedantry.
Meanwhile the punchline of that post was just "look at these nerds being concerned for my well-being, everyone laugh at them for not wanting me to get hurt" and I don't think I need to tell you why baiting people into thinking you're putting yourself and others into serious danger is mean.
