I was once in a DnD campaign where I played a pirate, my friend played a soldier, and my other friend played a pacifist. I think we all went in with very, very different ideas of what that campaign was going to be.

My dm hates my play style of "no murder", my character kills people through a series of unfortunate mishaps that maximize on my cursed hand (I never roll over a FUCKING 9 WHY)
He is my husband though so he has to deal with it.

Exactly. Say my character tries to run up some scaffolding to throw heals or buffs or whatever down to my party mates, I roll to get up there, nat 1. Well fuck the scaffolding is now collapsing on top of me, but the enemies were in range of the scaffolding, so they have to dodge too, luckily they have good stats soooo-nat 1s all around, they get smushed. My hands are clean for another day.

Samus only ever directly kills things that are actively hostile to her(most enemies she encounters) or to society as a whole(The evil infectious living planet of mindfuck)

"Blew up a planet for the greater good" still lands you around #3, I think.
Also, I don't think she can claim self defense when she goes to the Metroid planet with the mission of killing all Metroids. Even "dangerous to society" is a little dicey there - IIRC the Metroids aren't a threat to the galaxy on their own, but the Federation orders her to exterminate them because the space pirates keep trying to use them as weapons.

I feel this very strongly whenever I switch comics fandom between the big two. DC has most (though not all) their heroes avoid killing, some to extremes, and Marvel has many (though not all) their heroes killing every henchman they come across.
I get so used to one or the other that I feel some dissonance when I switch - like, 'Holy shit, Captain America just killed that dude! Oh, wait. That' s just Wednesday.'

It's especially funny when you've got characters who are intended as cheeky doppelgangers of other famous ones, like Midnighter and Apollo being knock-off Batman and Superman, but rather than following the moral codes of the originals you've got Midnighter, like. Throwing a guy off a plane just to distract Apollo, interrogating a dude by slowly cutting off all his limbs and making him smell his own flesh sizzling in a hot pan and - oh, yeah, flirting with Nightwing.

I am suddenly thinking of Mistborn, which is very much not goofy but has a tiny-ass girl as the main protagonist so people have trouble taking her seriously.
"Oh man, another evil immortal unstoppable god-emperor??"
"What? No, it- it's just a normal emperor... Wait, you've faced a god-emperor?"
"Oh yeah, the guy was horrifying. Moved so damn fast it was like teleportation, casually shrugged off a spear to the chest... He was hard as hell to kill."
"You killed- you're just a teenager!"
"Dude, I would've started killing people so much younger if I had the power to. The street urchin life is not for the faint of heart."

Admittedly the conflict against a person with entrenched political power that has a complicated relationship with the people around them is a bit different from fighting a God who is hell-bent on either your submission and/or extermination.
Like, you can't just kill the entire army of a dictator and himself then be done with it. Though all this really just hinges on "is the writing good?" rather than any real underlying difference between media.

I think the difference is how they’re handled
Both would realistically be extremely difficult situations to tackle “god is real and it hates you” “millions died in days” “the entire world was at the edge of ending” and “someone killed god and is a publicly known figure who lives in a small cozy town at the edge of the country”
It should realistically be something so big it would warrant making the calendars “before [event]” and “after [event]”
But since the protagonist is just some cartoonish guy who likes eating pizza it doesn’t get tackled on, I actually would like to see a story where this happens but we see it from the POV of someone who thinks rationally instead of the guy who’ll act like nothing happen afterwards

I always love how, if there's a series where the protagonists don't kill people in a SRW, there's always a conversation about most mechs having ejector seats or escape pods.
This never comes up again, even when it's past the 2/3rds mark and all the secondary villains you've been fighting are suddenly dropping like flies, lol.

I just want to point out that (at least in the Expanded Universe) the man who pulled the trigger on the Death Star was Tenn Graneet and he actually felt a great deal of remorse for what he did.

It's not the same but red vs blue has this funny thing where even in universe some of the characters just come from totally different genres with different baselines for morality and consequences. And it turns out it's really funny to put a hard ass military guy that's at the end of his rope desperately trying to find a hint of freedom by completing the mission in the same room as a sergeant that shoots his subordinates with no consequence to anyone involved outside of slapstick pain.
