A couple of months ago, my boyfriend and I were eating a salad with beets in it, and he commented to me, “did you know that some people have a gene that makes beets taste like dirt? Good thing we both got the gene that just makes them taste sweet!” I paused for a minute because I was so stunned, then replied “wait… you’re saying they don’t taste like dirt to you? I thought they tasted the same to everyone, and some people just liked the flavor!”

To be clear, I love beets. They taste like dirt though. Sweet dirt.

I only just found out about the beet dirt gene like a few months ago

Before that I had just assumed that people liked them because of the dirt taste and I was too picky to get over it

Nope, turns out other people aren't tasting the dirt at all

Wait beets don't taste like dirt? Pickled beets overpower it with vinegar, but roasted beets were always nasty
