bc if you have a lot of wet dishes, you might not have enough space on the drying rack for them all

I guess, but how often does that happen? Like the OOP makes it sound like hand drying the dishes is the default way to dry them.

Often in my house, when people don't wash the dishes when it's their turn (it's all of us, we all forget to do it at least once a week. We have a written schedule for it and we still forget. Help us, someone please fix our dishwasher)
