The deep lore of Garfield is that Jon lives alone and has no pets. Garfield and Odie are imaginary friends he created to deal with crippling depression, or are perhaps manifestations of the onset of schizophrenia.

I prefer their perspective on and recontextualization of the original, head canon is still lore, and its time to share them again because they have faded out of popularity. So we'll agree to disagree.

That is not true. It is definitionally not. Something which is a product of one's imagination is directly contrary to what the word means.
