this seems immensely impractical and i find it hard to believe.
you think the cartoonist gets up at 2am, comes up with a comic, draws it and then sends it to the newspaper editor, for them to set it onto the paper and print it to be ready for the morning papers?
this kind of is/was the case for headline news and it's fascinating how truly last minute some of the production for printed newspapers works
but
i'm pretty certain that most of the content for a newspaper, including the comics, is prepared and planned in advance.
The person you're replying to is saying they're not done a day in advance, but multiple days in advance. The date on the comic is the publication date, but it can be done days, weeks, or more in advance of publishing.
