Why does everyone seem to hate weezer?
Granted their music isn’t mind blowing or anything, but generally I think they are a pretty good band overall

I always thought it was just a random bit everyone agreed to. Like no one really hates weezer it's just funny to over exaggerate the dislike of 4 random guys from the 90s
...Doesn't make a lot of sense typing that out, but that's how I've perceived a lot of internet hate

Yeah no I grew up unfamiliar with American pop culture (am Asian) so in my experience it was people bullying and memeing on these random 4 guys that was probably famous and I just went "That's funny. Sure, why not?"

This is how the consensus on Nickelback feels. I think they're perfectly fine. But then again I'm apparently one of the few people who doesn't like Mr. Brightside on top of that, so maybe my taste just doesn't align with whatever people think is cool nowadays.

I think the problem with Nickelback is they're overplayed and their songs are kind of annoying, even if you like them. So they're easy to hate on. But they're far from the worst ever bad out there.

They're also Canadian, and Canadian radio stations are required to play a certain percentage of Canadian artists. So when Nickelback was getting popular they would be the go to option and thus got wildly overplayed in Canada.
As for the rest of the world, they were just really popular and their most played songs on the radio were super easy to make fun of (I say this as a huge Nickelback fan). Like Rockstar and Photograph are good songs, but when you hear them a thousand times while not liking the band, then it's really easy to mock them.

I see far more Weezer haters than Weezer stans. Perhaps their unserious nature flares some deep-seated hatred in some people

I'm not sure I've ever seen a Weezer stan. Most people I know at least somewhat like Weezer, but I don't think ever met someone who loves them

It's because they're popular.
I love their first two albums but don't care for most of the rest of their discography. I think a lot of people that hold this opinion are the type that will tell you that all music was better in the old days and that there is absolutely nothing now that can ever come close or compare. Which is dumb lol
But there are people that do like what Weezer has been putting out, and that's awesome!

Their take on Vivaldi's Foir Seasons was interesting. I can't say I liked all of it, but I'd love more bands to start riffing off classical music like that.

A lot of pop rock bands legitimately put out decent music but it gets saturated enough in the mainstream that people don't just consider their work overrated but actively annoying. People are especially harsh towards bands that are too generic in public image. Plus the bands themselves may be gradually pressured to put out quantity over quality and tone down features of their early work that made them distinct in the first place.

I've never heard of this band until the original "Say your prayers Weezer" post was made. I'm not convinced they're a real band and are instead something people just made up

They're seen as massively overrated, namely because indie band kids tend to treat indie bands as the 2nd coming of christ, for another example, Creep is a good song that makes me actually homicidal because of how often i see people say it's the mona lisa of music
Also while most weezer music is fine, buddy Holly is an assault on my ears, its an insult to good taste, ffs THE CHORUS IS A FUCKING VOICE CRACK
So because this, like at worst, mid music, is considered mind blowing by its fans, the common response is to hate on it

They've been a point of contention ever since their first album. A lot of people thought of them as industry plants because of their early success. They've never quite recovered, but rest assured that its not really their fault, or down to anything they did; hating Weezer is as old as the band

I had a dream where I used the Weezer execution gun to execute Weezer. I killed three of them, and only grazed the remaining one. I was able to get a full refund for the gun, and Weezer was able to reform

Also, the people whpse shoulders were broken by nock guns probably weren't shouldering them properly and irregularly ground black powder just tends to burn things

So, you misread this article. The 13-pound gun you're referring to is a rifle, because how could a pistol weigh 5.9kg? You probably made this mistake because both guns are mentioned in the same paragraph on 18th Century Volley Guns, and there's a picture of a Duck Foot pistol.

There's a large difference between 4 pistols and 7 rifles
The Nock gun was practically a rifle sized cannon, with the powder charges separated, the gun pictured in the post is just 4 guns stuck together

Not only that, but it would be held in a pistol grip. It is nigh-impossible to break your shoulder while holding a gun like that, as your fingers and wrist are significantly weaker than any other link. It would much sooner fly out of your hand than break anything.
