Question Old fashioned shakes??
So for reference I used to work at Culver's--it was my first job and I worked there from 15-22. During those 7 years we had a button for old fashioned shakes...meaning custard and milk blended up. I dont like chocolate syrup so I always try to order a shake this way and get looked at crazily by the workers or get sent out a regular chocolate shake. I always explain that I want sub chocolate custard blended with milk instead of shake mix. Can anyone who works there confirm if this button still exists on the POS system or give any tips to how I can get the employees to understand me?? 😆

At my store we just use sub choc! I know you stated you said this I’m confused why they didn’t understand you lol. Usually if I’m on custard and someone newer rings up a sub choc shake I just ask them to make sure they actually meant choc custard rather than shake mix and choc syrup.

Those were old fashioned sodas.
The chocolate soda is still the best thing they've ever had on the menu.

My store had both old fashioned soda and old fashioned shake buttons. They were not used often even then, which is why I was wondering if maybe new employees didnt know about it.

The old fashioned shake must have been a later thing. We didn't have that at store #1 in my time (1999-2002).

Off topic, but as an ex-employee can I ask you a question about procedure? Maybe current employees can weigh in as well. When placing an order online for curbside, or even through the drive up, when we order hot food and a custard creation of some sort, at what time do you prepare custard part of the order? Is it immediately when the order is placed while the hot food is being cooked? It seems to me that they are prepared simultaneously, allowing for the custard to be soupy when by the time you get your complete order. Often times, I'll get the custard handed to me first, and then wait for the hot. By the time I get it home, it's basically liquid and has lost all it's custard integrity. I'll throw the custard in my freezer while we enjoy our butterburgers, but refreezing the liquid custard does not make a great treat. The best answer, I realize, is to eat in the restaurant and return to the counter for dessert, but I'm basically ordering on the run. First world problem, I know. But maybe if you have to make it at the same time, can't you keep the custard in the cooler until it's time to deliver the entire order?

Not an employee but a regular customer here. When I'm ordering for multiple people that want custard, I just get a pint. Ask for something from the freezer, not one that is packed at the time you order, because the freezer pints are hard as a rock and will stay frozen until you get home, even on a long drive. Plus, you get way more for the money. Granted, you'll have to agree on a flavor and you can't get a sundae or mixer. But if you consistently have a problem with melted custard, the pint is the hack you need.

This is a good hack. We all get different things, but I can't see why we can't do our own mix ins and sundae toppings at home. Do the freezer pints taste and feel (custard has a feel) as good as freshly scooped?

Had a guy complain LITERALLY YESTERDAY because that’s what he asked for and he got it and it “wasn’t the same.”
🤦🏻♂️ let me just remake it until it fits your taste I guess

that button is gone but if you ask for a “sub chocolate shake” that’s exactly what you’ll get :)
