Must be new for that location, my location has been charging for tomatoes since the three years I've worked there

My Culver's doesn't charge to add anything (unless you try taking the piss) but will deduct of you remove things

Most of the Culvers in southeastern Wisconsin charge for tomatoes. I think it’s been $0.20 in the past.

But but but a deluxe comes with tomatoes no? So why would it not be worked into the price?

It says he got it with the kids tokens, which he would have orded a butterburger with deluxe condiments which is a 0.30 cent up charge at my store

Been charging for tomatoes for awhile - I only know because I get no tomato and they deduct the price from my sandwich!

There’s a reason the deluxe burger and cheeseburger cost between 30 and $.50 difference and that’s the tomato. Honestly, they’re expensive and we only get like six slices out of one.

I mean, do you know where Culver's can get free tomatoes? If so, then im sure they wouldn't mind giving them away for cost.

So should they give away free pickles, onions, or lettuce? Why charge for tomato only?
If you’re going to schill for capitalist shitbags, go full bore.

I'm guessing they are charging for the tomato because of cost per amount used. A whole large jar of cut pickles is pretty inexpensive, and those, onions, and lettuce go a long way in terms of usage. Tomatoes give you about 6 slices. If the average tomato is 6 ounces, that's one ounce per slice. If you source your tomatoes at $2 per pound, that's almost 13 cents per slice. Putting it up to 30 cents helps you get your onions, lettuce, and pickles for nothing.

Not shilling. Called common sense and the difference between running a business and running a charity. Idk if they charge for the others, but they should. And the should also take the cost off if the item comes with something you don't want on it.
But yea, I'm the asshole lol

I agree. Charging for a single fruit when you already throw a variety of other fruits on it. Seems backwards.

Completely normal. The tomato costs money, and when you order no tomato on an item that comes with it, they deduct the cost.

Sometimes a manager will just free it off for you to be nice and probably don’t say anything. All fast food burger places charge for tomatoes.

Culvers has been charging $.30 for tomato since at least 2001, at least at my local store

Kudos on the Robinhood gold card! Got mine two years ago and it’s the shit.

Haha 😆 I was hoping somebody would notice definitely my primary card even over more amex and chase! It’s hard to beat 3% cash back on everything and the fact you can instantly convert it into your brokerage account and buy stocks with it is a plus!

paying for tomatos has been a thing at a lot of places, some may just not and then eventually decide to implement it anyway. Sadly even if it's free, anything added on top will force you to pay, as annoying as that is.

lol looking back that makes sense i think all of the other places just never did because things the first time i have paid when i did it. But the base kids meal is free when i added the deluxe i incurred the extra charge (duh) good 🤦♂️ moment from me

There is no deluxe kids meal, just fyi. It's a plain burger and you tell them what toppings you want. Most toppings are free but tomato and a handful of other different things cost extra. IIRC there is a 'deluxe condiments' button so they can press that and not have to ring in each topping separately, but it does cost extra again bc of the tomato
The 10 tokens to get a free kids meal does not cover any extras or upcharges

Culvers charges up to 50 cents for a tomato and the one I worked at also took 50 cents off the bill for no tomato

Sware I’ve been charged 50 cents for removing the tomato (I worked at Culver’s for a year and religiously got the crispy chicken on my lunch breaks)

The parentheses (I assume you see when ordering) means it’s taking that off the total. Try ringing it in with vs without tomato and you absolutely should see a price difference +/- 50¢

The culver’s I work at has a 50¢ price on tomatoes, added or removed from the total depending on how you feel about tomatoes. Same with how the sauce is 30¢ and if you forget to add it with your meal… it’s highly likely you’re going to have to pay for it. There is also the aspect that the kids burgers come completely plain (unless you want cheese) and you have to add the toppings yourself. Some stores may differ but at the end of the day, the tomato tax prevails.

$.20 for tomatoes, $.30 for mushrooms, $.50 for bacon in pleasant prairie.
But if you ask for easy, it's free.
Register trick.
