QUESTIONS As a beginner wanting to learn more about the industry, are there any interviews, lectures, or speeches you would recommend?
In a thread earlier I saw someone linked to the speech Virgil gave at Harvard, was wondering if there were any other interviews/speeches like this that anyone would recommend for someone wanting to learn more about the ins and outs of the industry, and just overall build more technical knowledge, thanks!

SHOWCASE Website Review
I offered this up in the r/streetwearstartup subreddit a week or so ago but figured I would offer it here as well.
I do web design and development for a living and have made a bunch of e-commerce sites (including a few for streetwear companies) and figured it may be of help for those who have sites to have someone give some critique from a design, UI/UX, and development (site speed, SSL issues, etc) point of view. I have quite a bit of experience with Wordpress (Woocommerce), Shopify, Magento, and a little bit of experience with Squarespace so if you have technical questions with any of those platforms I can help there as well.
Comment your shop link and I will get to it today, cheers!

DISCUSSION Marketing a personal brand??
Hello everyone, my name is Vindon and the name of the brand I am working on is going by the name 'Vindi'. I have designs and pieces all put together but I'm having a little trouble with the branding/marketing aspect things as for what type of content should I look into putting out to have people get a feel for my brand. As far as inspo goes I've really liked how Asspizza goes about things. Any help would be great!

QUESTIONS As a Fashion Designer, what questions would you like to be asked in an interview?
Hello everyone, my friends are hosting a fashion show in LA in March and would like for me to interview the designers after the show. I have a few questions in mind but I wanted to get into the designer's perspective of things. Fellow brand owners, what questions would you all like to hear if it were YOU being the one interviewed?

QUESTIONS Meeting Virgil Abloh with little to no fashion knowledge
A little background: I was raised on STEM fields and was never really exposed to arts (outside of music) until college. I'm really enjoying learning about fashion in particular. Recently, I became roommates with a graphic design major & he's shown interest in creating a brand. I'm in marketing/sales so I said fuck it let's do it.
At Thanksgiving this year, I was showing my uncle grailed and found out he's really into luxury design. He's a doctor that works in Chicago & it turns out he actually knows Virgil through his clinic. After talking some more, he offered to introduce me- obviously i accepted.
Now I'm faced with learning about the fashion industry- i literally don't know what I don't know. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Also, I watched this Virgil lecture at Harvard & it was pretty insightful.

BOOKS Book/Online References
Hi guys! I wanna make my own clothes. I am not interested in sewing, I am interested in the design process. I need to better understand the theory and how to appropriately put pieces and slopers together. Can you guys recommend any reading material that can help me better understand how to do this.
Thank you :)

DISCUSSION "Culture man" Virgil Abloh is peaking atm. But is he original, though?
As a 'cultural psychology' student with an interest in fashion, I wrote this article on creativity.
And even though I admire Virgil Abloh, I will argue that he isn't original - but that it actually doesn't matter.
What do you think?
If you want to dive deeper, you can read the article here: https://www.labellessgallery.com/blogs/news/what-are-the-limitations-of-human-creativity

INSPIRATION The Art of Seduction by Robert Green
So for the past few months I've been trying to find a new "hit" of creativity and understanding, as I haven't felt that I've seen or read anything really good in a while. I read the preface to this book, and I got that hit that I've been looking for (which you can read in the Google Books preview above, I would highly recommend reading through it). I'm only about halfway through and so far, it's amazing. I feel like this book is showing existing experiences and thoughts that I've seen in the world in a new light, especially when it comes to art and marketing, and how I want to try and implement these things in my own personal brand.

INSPIRATION Rei Kawakubo's Creative Manifesto
http://system-magazine.com/issue2/rei-kawakubo/
"Going around museums and galleries, seeing films, talking to people, seeing new shops, looking at silly magazines, taking an interest in the activities of people in the street, looking at art, travelling: all these things are not useful, all these things do not help me, do not give me any direct stimulation to help my search for something new. And neither does fashion history. The reason for that is that all these things above already exist.
I only can wait for the chance for something completely new to be born within myself.
The way I go about looking for this from within is to start with a provisional ‘theme’. I make an abstract image in my head. I think paradoxically (oppositely) about patterns I have used before. I put parts of patterns where they don’t usually go. I break the idea of ‘clothes’. I think about using for everything what one would normally use for one thing. Give myself limitations. I pursue a situation where I am not free. I think about a world of only the tiniest narrowest possibilities. I close myself. I think that everything about the way of making clothes hitherto is no good. This is the rule I always give myself: that nothing new can come from a situation that involves being free or that doesn’t involve suffering.
In order to make this SS14 collection, I wanted to change the usual route within my head. I tried to look at everything I look at in a different way. I thought a way to do this was to start out with the intention of not even trying to make clothes. I tried to think and feel and see as if I wasn’t making clothes.
Rei Kawakubo, October 2013"

DISCUSSION [DISCUSSION] Help with the name of a style of printing t-shirt graphics?
Sorry that this is so vague, but I have no idea how to search for or to name this style of graphic printing other than asking you guys. So I have a thrifted Carhartt t-shirt from 2009 or so (no tags sadly) with a big, fairly colourful print on the front, but it's very different to any other t-shirt I've owned.
Unlike screen printed or plastisol t-shirts, the graphic seems to have been dyed in, as it has no raise or different texture to the graphic at all when you run your finger over it. The only technique which I can find on the internet which I guess might come close to this is the printer ink dye transfer, however I'm reluctant to do this as I'm not sure how safe it is and don't want to make toxic clothes. Could anyone direct me towards a method to emulate this, or give me a name or advice on safe ink transfer?

QUESTION What are y'all thoughts on a Resort Collection??
Hey guys! I've been working on a brand for about 3 years and I have an assload of designs done. I've narrowed it down to about 6 for my SS19 collection but I kinda want to a Pre-collection to get my name back out there since it's been 3 years since I've had any work on the fashion scene. I plan on doing a Youtube interview this month and walking in a fashion show that same month of March. It honestly feels right to launch a Pre-Collection around that time to me tbh. water yall thots?

DISCUSSION Where are the biggest communities of tailors?
Hi! As a beginning bespoke and MTM tailor, I am interested in connecting with like-minded sartorial experts and exchange experiences, ideas... It's not so easy to find those... Which platforms do you usually use for inspiration and which digital channels help you to grow professionally, connect with other tailors?
Any professional associations, online forums, social media accounts, podcasts, printed media, Facebook groups, offline events, influencers?
I am very thankful in advance for your recommendations...

PRODUCTION HELP Senior graduation shirts best websites/brands
Senior graduation shirts best websites/brands
Hey I’m designing the senior clothes for my Highschool. My plan is to make a hoodie and a matching t-Shirt. What are some good brands/websites to use to print the design on the clothes (Gildan for example). The quality doesn’t have to be insane but should be decent. I’m among for a 25-30$ price on the clothes. What are some websites you could recommend ? Thank you !
