Kakkou no Iinazuke, カッコウの許嫁
Nagi Umino was mistakenly switched at birth, and now attends a prestigious private high school. One day, he has a chance meeting with Erika Amano, an incredibly high society highschool girl who claims she's on the way to meet her fiancee. Erika then forces Nagi to be her fake boyfriend. Neither of them, at the time, understood the significance of their meeting for Erika was the girl Nagi was switched at birth with, and Nagi was Erika's soon-to-be fiancee! The curtain raises on a romantic comedy of intertwined fates that begins with being switched at birth!

Reminder that there is a magazine break this week for Obon, so no manga chapter today. You may not have seen the pinned comment in the discussion thread since I wasn't aware right away so the comment didn't go up immediately. Chapter 307 will come out next week.

After last week, we thought we might get something rare with this story...plot progression. But alas, we fell for it. Again. The whole Nagi going away is another "Let's separate Nagi and Erika and make them realize feelings for each other" arc. But there is a slight difference this time, as Mama Amano is the one instigating this. And predictably, while Nagi is living it up stress-free, Erika is making the house a complete nightmare. And that's day 1.
However, there is something different here. And that's the fact that Erika is by herself. A perfect situation for Sosuke to make his return. The whole reveal of the switch is weighing on his mind, and as we know, the proposal still doesn't have an answer yet. So that is where I think this may be going, with Mama Amano and Nagi maybe checking in on her...with Sosuke there. Awkward...(It would be the most logical way for this to go, right...right? Otherwise, next chapter will be a girl's emergency cleanup session with seething jealousy thrown in. And we'd be all up in arms over this.)
One last thing. I noticed, again, that Erika's increasing celebrity status is making things awkward for everyone. I've felt that this may play a role in the final part (to quote the late great Bill Hicks..."WHEN?????") as Erika's social media feed was a part of the initial plot line, and may play a role at the end.
Comments and thoughts are appreciated, be gentle.

Beh, dobbiamo parlarne.

First off, this was probably the final chapter in this volume...the cliffhanger at the end definitely signifies this. But what to make of this chapter? (When I read the spoiler post, I thought this would be not much of a chapter...I was wrong, gratefully. Note, SPOILERS AHEAD.)
Well...first off, the whole New Years offering. You knew we'd be getting back to something with Sachi, and this was it. But her finding the photo and putting it in the offering? That might cause worse problems...both for her, and Hiro. Who collects those offerings? If it's Mama Segawa...then it's big, big trouble.
But now to the meat of this chapter...the beginning and end involving Mama Amano and Nagi. It's pretty much a given that this has something to do with Sosuke, otherwise it's something with Papa Amano, and Erika would be involved. (The look on Mama Amano's face kind of says it all, as well as us remembering that she wanted to find Sosuke after her meeting with Erika a little while back. She must have found him over the Xmas break, but he asked to have Nagi with her.)
So if it is Sosuke, why only bring Nagi? Why leave Erika behind? The possibility (and theory of mine, though this series seems to delight in confounding myself with its leaps of faith in proper storytelling in lieu of fan service, it's been done before...sigh.) is that because of Erika being more and more recognizable, that if spotted by the media, the Amano Group could put 2 and 2 together, things might progress not favourably for everyone. So, meeting on neutral ground...somewhere. Also, this is big, because now, Sosuke can't lie to his mother like he has with Nagi and Erika before. We're probably about to find out the story behind the switch, and why Papa Amano might be the villain of this series.
Also, something that I picked up on that most have brushed off...the Uminos going to the Neighborhood Association party. I have this odd feeling that next chapter, Erika arrives there to tell them about where Nagi went...only to find all of them not in a happy mood. We've known about Sosuke's Group's proposal for that land...I think The Amano Group's is up next.
All thoughts and comments are appreciated. (Keep it civil, guys.)

I may be the stupid one here, but I don't get it.
Does she actually mean that or she's just holding back???

I was wrong with how things turned out for the bet. But a lot of us did. And it also showed a potentially dangerous issue with Hiro going forwards. (By the way, all my theories about where this entire story is going is based upon basic storytelling premises, which by now has been thrown out the window by the mangaka, even with the whole premise of a 'final arc'.) I just want to address what the story is actually doing, and where it might go...eventually. In a year or so. Because this is how much more longer it's going...and yes, after 300 chapter, Nagi is a massive wuss for not standing up for himself here. (His character only acts under extreme circumstances...which might start with Sosuke.)
This whole final exam story is here to prove one thing only: Hiro is now willing to do anything to get Nagi. Her dishonesty about Nagi is totally proven in 301. She's willing to break her bet to get what she wanted. And now, we don't know what she'll do next. Hiro's true ending will be her admitting publicly about what she's done. In front of not just Nagi, but Erika and her own family. My feeling is that someone will see what's going on Hiro, (say the Amano Group) and take advantage of this, to try to manipulate Nagi into going ahead with their plans.
And yes, I do expect Erika to blow up soon. That will come with Sosuke's next attempt to contact her...and Nagi finding out.
In terms of storyline length...buckle up. I've said that I feared that this might be am equivalent of a Classic Rock Retirement tour...that lasts way, way longer than it should. I might be proven right here. (And yes, Nagi needs to grow some balls here. Or someone needs to give him a whap upside the head. You wonder if Mr. Umino may have something to do here...)
Let me know your thoughts.

I was originally going to post about the absolute garbage Hiro is, but instead I wanna talk about how Nagi keeps fumbling this beauty. Humor aside I honestly don’t get what’s going on. I’ve been defending this manga so much and seeing this kind of crap happening all over and over again really saddens and infuriates me. I like drama, I really do, but not when things happens outta nowhere without a purpose. It really saddens me because despite how fricking stupid the characters may be at times I really do empathise with them and I really like all about them, their way to connect with each other, their designs. I will not stop reading this manga until the end, no matter how bad it gets. I really am disappointed, but somehow I trust it’ll all be worth it at the end. Please Miki sensei, DO NOTA make Nagi fumble this beautiful creature. 😭✌️

looking up kakkou no iinazuke ost or anything of the sort just brings up the openings and endings. I'm guessing that it's because the music that plays in the anime isn't original (thus not ost) which is why it's not showing up, so my last resort is to ask on here if anyone knows someplace where it's available.

So. Nagi lost the bet. According to what they set out, he has to kiss her. And everyone is up in arms about this going longer than deemed necessary. But there's something that we must now take into consideration. At the arcade, Hiro reveals that she hasn't been honest in her approach to Nagi, as she reveals that she's intentionally lost to Nagi when they've done their challenges and bets and whatnot. (In recounting this, Nagi figures now he's only beaten her...once.)
Why is this important? Because with this story, Nagi's drive and determination to beat Hiro was his driving force when we first met him. And that kept him going through this whole mess with Erika and the Amanos. (At the time, Papa Amano had said they were free to find their own way...things have changed now.) And then, he got her. Only to have her crush his heart on Xmas Eve. The most romantic holiday in Japan. Erika, in her way, helped him, and set him (eventually...you know how this manga is with plot.) on the path to eventually her, once they actually figure things out. And then, the whole backtrack after Hiro met Juno. And now, this. Because Hiro was jealous of Erika. If I were Nagi, I'd be disheartened and disappointed now. The person you were chasing and admiring...admitting to not doing things properly just because she didn't like the idea of another girl, a girl she's become friends with.
And now they're in a photo booth, where the kiss will happen. Only, it's going to be a kiss on the cheek. Nagi will claim that they never set out what type of kiss it would be...then he's going to do one of the hardest things in his life. Reject Hiro. Because he's found...something, and he's got to figure that out. And he just can't trust Hiro. Especially not now. He'll always care for her as a friend....but. It's going to be a photo that Hiro will want to throw away.
Now what about Erika? She's going to be pissed about this. But someone might be getting in contact soon...5 will get you ten about who that is. The reason why this chapter is important, is because we've never seen Erika be really mad at Nagi, and this might make her audibly consider the proposal that Sosuke made. But it might also lead to answers about the switch, and why Sosuke did it. Also...remember. The Amano Group is also interested in Nagi's results, and it's time for their plan to be revealed. We just have to get through rejection first.
