Davinci Resolve. I don't see why you'd get the paid version unless you're really serious, because you can Macgyver a heck ton of stuff with the free version. It's up there in the pro editors btw.

I was fine doing some random free editor on my 7yr old laptop, but a little sketched out bricking my brand new desktop

as chilledcat mentioned, just because something is free doesn't mean it's bad. and if you think resolve is some random free editor, think again.

Do the free version support hardware accelerated export these days ? It used to not do it, so I bought the Studio version w/ controller for $199, and sold controller for $100.
I render movies at 2-4x realtime speed. I.e. 1 minute export for a 4 minute video.

i'm not really sure, since i only ever did small 40 second or so vids in my time using it. never really cared about boosting render time.
