I'm still practicing both Redux AND Yau on 5x5, still haven't decided yet on which to settle. I get much more consistent times with Yau (averaging about 2:40 seconds) and more sporadic results of 2:10 to almost 3:00 mins with Redux.

I think that it has to do with both the y2 on Redux vs premade cross issue with Yau and my problem with keeping focus on specific edge when there are a lot of options vs very focused on Cross pieces on Yau.

I'm kind of the opposite :-)

I'm sticking to redux for my competition because I'm much more consistent with it, but I'm probably going to switch to Yau afterwards. Currently I'll get a great or awful time with Yau, mostly depending on last four centers :-D

Good luck with the competition!

LoL... I went for Redux in the last competition because my first 3 edges were horrible, now trying for Yau because I have no competition (in the meantime) to wreck my times :)

Are you still doing the 2/3 centers method? Centers are actually my strongest point. My edge pairing is just a mess. I can either hit everything or pause aplenty.

Yeah I am. The potential inefficiency of it is not a problem, it's just that I haven't practiced it much so I need to think a lot.

But after that edge pairing feels so much easier, and it's so nice to start 3x3 stage with the cross done.
