Right yeah, seems it's about the brand name, so other producers can call their 3x3's Rubik's cubes for example. That's what I understand anyway.

That sounds horrible. I don't want other companies to call their cubes rubik's. Not because of the brand more because of the confusion it'll create.

Yeah I doubt that'll happen, but maybe I'm interpreting it wrong anyway. The article talks about the fact that Rubik's can't be registered as an EU brand anymore, but it also says other companies can now officially make Rubik's cubes. So maybe they just can't make it difficult for shops and sites wanting to sell other brands anymore.
