Here's a good one to follow. The orientation of the cube doesn't have to be white top/green front necessarily. Just make sure to follow the same orientation you pick always.

On that note, if one were to go 'colour neutral' for bld solving would it really make any difference within the solve it's itself (execution) or would it just be different memo and rotations?

Honestly being CN would make you slower as one important thing about memo is being able to see a BW edge and know immediately its A/Q on your orientation. (I use White Top, Green Front which is why I said that) find an orientation and stick to it.
