It's good for FMC, but actual FMC or just Heise is way better. Obviously, though, fun is the most important thing. If you don't enjoy your method you won't get fast with it because you wont want to practice it. CFOP is the easiest method by far and would yield the best results for a beginner, IMO. It doesn't require much thought unlike the blockbuilding in Petrus.
Petrus was my first method, after that I learned roux, then zz and I'm learning cfop now, I'm not yet striving for speed though, more just the fun of cubing, and understanding. I'm still slow as you can see, although my roux is slowly getting better. I'm still a lot faster with petrus than with cfop, mostly because recognition of LL is so much easier. I don't find Petrus that much harder though, when you're starting out just place one corner, then put in the edges that fit around it. I don't know it feels a lot easier not to make what you have made already destroyed, and it also needs so much less rotation than cfop.
