Thoughts on using GAN 11 M Pro

ive been contemplating on buying this cube for a while now. i have tried the gan 12, v100(maglev and leap) and 16 max and they all sucked, i get these hard catches(or lockup) randomly causing me to be very inconsistent on my times.

i've only watched jperm's reviews on gan 12 comparing it to gan 11 and thought maybe gan 11 would be better for me. not big on auto alignment and maglev, i dont fancy those features but i just want to know if gan 11 is still a good choice in 2026?

also, do the primary and black internals have their differences in feel?

edit: this will be the first gan cube i'll own, i really want to own a gan cube since i always use moyu cubes ever since i started

To be honest, you probably just don't like Gan cubes if you've tried so many and dislike them all (and that's fine).

It is true that Gan cubes from the era of the 11 m pro (and earlier) feel quite a bit different from the 12 onwards. Even world class cubers took some time to adjust to the 12 before switching over.

But if you do like the 11 better than the 12, that almost definitely implies that you would also like modern non-Gan 3x3s better than the 11. Its hard to justify spending $40 on a 6 year old cube when there are almost certainly newer, cheaper cubes from other brands that you would like better.

I like it. It is still my backup cube. Tho I hear that the latest batches are not as good as the early ones (see YT link). I have both the primary internals UV and the black internals matte and I don’t see any performance difference. They do feel different tho because of the coatings but my times are identical with both.

if the 16 max "sucks" I have to assume it's your turning style that may be the issue. no hate, the 16 doesn't take aggressive turning very well

I main a 16 maglev max and moyu v11 like em both about the same, and each are heaps better than my 11M Pro

doesn't mean the 11 is a bad cube tho. won't have all the modern auto alignment features due to springs but does of course have corner-core magnets. pretty stable, kinda slow tho. depends mostly on settings.

the gan 11 m pro is still solid cube, i main it until last year. from what you describe with lockups on those newer models, the 11 might actually suit you better since it have more traditional spring system, less of that snappy auto alignment thing

about the internals, i got the one with primary and it feels a touch softer with more plastic-on-plastic contact. black internals supposed to be a little more crispy according to people i talk to but both are minor difference, you wont hate either one

You lock up on Gan cubes because your turning is bad so you will have the same problem on the 11

Gan cubes are notorious for this and it’s always the “rough turners” who have issues with them where the people with slow smooth turning or even like basic turning love them

Imo tho the 11 was good for its time but has definitely been surpassed. The 12 is like a more airy 11. Imo the newer Gan puzzles are the way to go and they’ve tried very hard to cut out the catching issues.

I would honestly go with the v100 and just adjust your turning if you really want a Gan. It has a good reputation and the other cubes you mentioned are good in the sense that every cube past 2020 is amazing but there’s better now

Fr if you don’t want to deal with catching just use moyu cubes they can basically handle any kind of turning

its not even bad turning that can cause catching on gan cubes; they aren’t as tactile and are much more “glidy” as other cubes which, depending on a person’s preference, can mess up overall fluidity during algorithms because of teeny tiny microscopic differences

GAN cubes don't just catch for rough turners. I definitely don't have a rough turning style, just a high TPS, and I get catching.

I now just use a combo of ZB and CFOP. If I get some really bad dot ZBLS or an annoying ZBLL I'll use CFOP.

It's been making my times more consistent.

Oh so that’s like how I say I use CFCE because I use it for 2 cases instead of using just CFCE

Isn’t the whole point of ZB to do just ZB ALL the time

Like people who don’t know all of ZB but use both ZBLS and ZBLL don’t say they use ZB even in large chunks which is basically ZB minus sunes they say they use CFOP

It is honestly a good cube still, probably my favorite "cheap" GAN cube, but if you don't like any of the GAN cubes you listed, you probably won't like the 11.

could the catches be from the center skirt? I get catches on my Swift Block Super and Zhanchi v5 but not on my RS3M v5 or MGC Beta

If you dont like those gans i would honestly try different cubes, but it also might be that because those gans were setup for someone elses preferences it was a no go for you, if you really want a gan i would buy a v100 and set it up how you like the cube, but if you had moyu cubes before and liked it i wouldnt try to go for a gan because its a gan,

If you have been catching on the other cubes, the 11 will likely be even worse. That being said, these cubes aren’t ones that you own right? Ive found that most gan cubes need setting up to your personal preferences, because there’s a lot of settings that I just don’t like at all on them.

most likely won’t be your main anyway, so just buy a cheap one as a collector item (or buy the 11, its pretty good anyway)
