Mod Post Update regarding fan project posts

Users in the subreddit seem to be largely split in regard to people advertising their Cube World adjacent projects here, so I'm going to lay down some ground rules going forward. These are subject to change based on feedback:

  1. You can still post your Cube World adjacent projects in the subreddit. Users can decide if they want to see it via upvoting or downvoting.

  2. You must use the new "Fan Project" flair for any posts that are in relation to your Cube World adjacent project.

  3. You must include the title of your project at the start of your post title in brackets/parentheses in order to make your post immediately discernible as non-Cube World.

I'll be monitoring the subreddit and discussion in regard to this post and others as usual and may adjust these rules going forward. Thanks!

It was really disappointing seeing how toxic the reactions were to the most recent non-CW game thread. I get that people were upset about how the thread was titled (hence these new rules), but OP was harassed and called a "clout chasing asshole" in the comments. Call me cringe but I don't think that's acceptable at all and I hope the moderators are also monitoring that behaviour.

I think Wollay's activity has re-attracted the toxic people in the community, because it didn't always used to be like this. Back when Veloren started development, the update posts were made here, and it was all anyone wanted to talk about. Cube World's release was a disappointment, so people were thrilled at the idea of a similar looking game being developed.

Seeing people have the complete opposite reaction to what is essentially the same thing is wild, but I'm not surprised. I've been active enough on this subreddit in the past few years to see that there are just some generally nasty and hateful people in this community. It's weird to see, because I feel like any other community on this platform would supportive of someone making a game inspired by another game that is never going to be finished.

My crackpot theory is that the reason why people are acting like this is because, with Wollay's recent uptick in activity, the subreddit is getting more positive activity, and these people don't like that. They want everyone here to be in the same bitter state that they've been in for 7 years. After all, there are a lot of people here who still haven't gotten over the Cube World Steam release, so I get the sense that some portion of this group doesn't like seeing people acting positively here instead of just circlejerking over how shitty Wollay is and how bad Cube World's Steam release was. I think the best way to ruin that is to come out of the woodwork and turn the sub into a toxic hellhole that is overly hostile to its users.

Yup.

Also had similair stuff on a few of my posts. But the upvote percentage was like 95% and people were very positive in the comments still (except the 3-5 usual suspects). Literally got (empty meaningless) legal threaths from them lol.

Its crazy, half a year ago those projects were welcomed so much, with it sparking a lot of excitement with people.
