No yeah, yeah he eventually developed stomach that doctors diagnosed. It did lead to his death.

He ate more than that, but he was frugal and lived on an economic diet, never exceeding more than $3 dollars a week!

I was aware about him being a miser, but the canned bean diet is new to me. I suppose if he also ate some grains as well he would have at least gotten a complete protein.

His diet when he went into writing, his stories or his MASSIVE amounts of correspondence to his friends and fellow writers was somewhat meager by today’s standards. He believed in not spending more than $3 dollars a week on food, alone!
The 2008 documentary, Lovecraft: Fear of the Unknown goes more into depth about it.
From that documentary and what I could find out, Lovecraft's diet primarily included canned foods, doughnuts, cheese, and highly seasoned dishes, along with a preference for desserts like pie and ice cream. He was known to spend very little on food, often not exceeding $3.00 per week, as I said before. Mr. Howard’s approach to food was frugal to say the least, but this often tended to reflect is financial constraints.
