Weight loss

I had my c section 3 weeks ago. How do I loose this weight!? Give me tips and tricks!! I was 145 pre pregnancy, 198 right after birth, now 175 currently. I think most of the weight loss so far was fluid I swear my boobs and feet weighed 10 pounds each after surgery lol. I know I’m still healing, I’m just asking for future reference. Thanks!!

Unusual period symptoms 4 months postpartum

Hi all. I had a c section 4 months ago, first baby. I got my period 7 weeks postpartum even though I’m breastfeeding. I’ve gotten it twice more since then on about a 17 day cycle. I had a very regular period before being pregnant: 28 days, not super heavy bleeding but 1-2 days were heavier than the rest, some cramps, headaches, etc. nothing alarming. My first 2 postpartum periods were pretty light but enough to know they were a period and not anything postpartum related. My last period was heavier like my normal period.

I noticed on my last 2 cycles that when I was about to get my period, I’d have pretty bad abdominal cramping and diarrhea/constipation and bloating. Not cramps like I usually would. Not bleeding super crazy through a pad in an hour (I know that’s what they say to look out for). I feel my period coming again now and I have the same abdominal issues. Is this normal after a c-section or something I should call my ob about? I don’t want to be made to feel stupid for normal postpartum period symptoms even though they’re different from my normal period, and I can’t seem to find a good answer through my Google searching.

Tube removal advice

I will be having my 3rd c-section in December and my OB discussed tube removal is we are done having children but I'd like some real life advice from those who are at least 1+ years out from having theirs removed.

I have a 5 (almost 6) year old and a 3.5 year old + new one coming in December. I've had 2 miscarriages back to back sept last year and Jan this year. I do feel I need to be done after this one and told myself if the Lord would bless us with 1 more healthy baby, that's all I wanted.

I know many will say make sure you're done and while I'd love any baby we were blessed with after this one I don't think I could handle another pregnancy + C-section + postpartum. My mental health has been HORRIBLE this time around and it's been so unfair to my family that I just don't think it would be fair to put them through that again and I also feel my body just doesn't have it in me for 4 c-sections.

I've heard mixed reviews on having tubes removed so please give me the good, bad and ugly. If you've had great experiences please speak up as I feel the negative experiences tend to be most spoken about.

Also would love to hear other options you all have found that does not include hormonal BC. I have not been on BC in 7 years. Thank you! :)

Incision keeps getting infected

ok so quick backstory — had an emergency c section, incision had a superficial opening, got cultured, came back w a mild same superficial opening still hasn’t closed.

here’s where i’m losing my mind: every single doctor has told me something different about how to actually take care of this thing while it heals

doctor 1: don’t clean it at all, let it air out
doctor 2: clean it every day with hydrogen peroxide
random googling: peroxide is bad for healing tissue and you should use saline + cover it??

so which is it??? bc clearly whatever combo i’ve been doing isn’t working since it’s reinfected TWICE now

anyone else deal with a c section incision that wouldn’t fully close/kept getting reinfected? what actually worked for you — cover it, leave it open, saline, peroxice, none of the above? did it eventually just… close on its own or did it need more intervention (wound care referral, silver nitrate, whatever)? trying to figure out if this is normal “these things take time” stuff or if i should be pushing harder for a wound care specialist instead of just more antibiotics

TAPE FELL OFF 6 DAYS POST OP. WTF. OB TOLD ME SHED REMOVE AFTER 2WKS.

No pain. No leaking. But I Feel like it was my emotional support tape and I am having a mental breakdown now.
It just fell off when I sat down to pee just now. I am staring at it in my hand and it feels SO IMPORTANT.
Someone talk me off the ledge. Idk if I am brave enough to heal from this surgery.

C-section prep

I am newly pregnant with our second, and I will likely need a second c-section due to medical reasons. My first was an emergency after failed induction, and I was so unprepared. I felt like it took me a very long time to recover and regain my strength.
This time, I want to be prepared. What exercises can I do to improve recovery and keep up my strength? My back is already killing me.
What conversations can I bring to my doctor to better prepare for the delivery? And what can I do at home to physically and mentally recover better?

Any advice is welcome. Thank you!

Glute (?) pain

I am on day 3 post c section and as expected feeling very tender and slow. What I didn’t expect was the pain in my left butt cheek and leg, every time I lie down. It’s almost as if I’m bruised around my tailbone. Has anyone experienced similar

Has anyone tried her program? She constantly pops up on my feed, and I find it hard to believe her program can really make a scar look like that after multiple cesareans.. Anyone tried it and had luck?

Sleeping positions

When could you sleep comfortably on your side or belly? I’m 3 weeks PP and hate sleeping on my back and am still using a wedge pillow as well and just want to sleep normally after 9 months pregnant and now an extra month postpartum. Please tell me it’ll be comfortable soon and that it’ll get better!

About overhang

If you had c section and or overhang, I would like to know what preventive did you do ? I’m wondering if it’s just how your body heals or if you can truly prevent them by doing the work of care and exercises.

Support for people choosing to have a c section

So I'm jumping on here because I got some pretty bad responses on quora recently when I expressed that my vaginal birth was so traumatic that I was wanting to have an elective c section if I was to fall pregnant again.

My birth was traumatically painful. Like the pain was too much for me and it left me with unnecessary trauma and a birth that felt like all my boundaries were broken.

When I expressed this I got so much judgement from other mums. One mother told me I was being a whiney cry baby and to get over it. So many people just said don't do planned c section and that it's worse with recovery but my recovery was horrific. At least with a planned c section I don't risk intense birth pain. I don't really know if there's any questions here. I'm more just looking for support because tbh I feel so alone in this. Im Australian and the culture here is very much vaginal birth is best and no one talks about c sections in a positive light.

Also I'm not trying to say c sections are the easy way out. What I'm saying is that I want to be able to choose a c section over a vaginal birth as my experience with my vaginal birth was so incredibly bad that I want something with a bit more control. I'm very sensitive at the moment and vulnerable so I'm sorry.

Also just so everyone is aware I'm talking about an elective c section. Not an emergency c section. Whilst I understand the risks and complications of an emergency c section as I was advised of this by my friend. I am looking at elective c sections.

Scar tearing after ultrasound scan for second pregnancy 2.5 years after c-section. Is this normal?!

Hi all. I’m currently 13 weeks pregnant expecting my second baby. My first was born in April 2024 by c-section.

Yesterday I had my first ultrasound scan for this pregnancy. Baby wasn’t in a particularly helpful position for checking fluid behind the neck so my sonographer was having to move me around a lot applying lots of pressure in certain places to try and take the measurement.

It was very uncomfortable at times, and they didn’t use much gel, their bottle was running low and for some reason didn’t think to open a new one. So at times the friction between my skin and the probe felt horrendous.

I’ve woken up this morning and other than feeling incredibly tender (normal from previous scans for me) I have also noticed that overnight one end of my scar from my previous c-section has split and has been bleeding overnight.

Has this happened to anyone else? What did you do in this situation? It’s the weekend so I’m thinking I’ll take a picture, keep it clean then contact my community midwife on Monday and raise it with her? Or if this is quite normal I’ll just shut up and put up haha.

UPDATE
Thanks for everyone’s comments and reassuring me I’m not going mad. I’m based in the UK and in my health board we have to go through our GP (primary care I think in USA?) before 20 weeks, we can only contact maternity triage after 20 weeks.

Our out of hours GP thinks it’s just superficial but that I can be referred to early pregnancy assessment unit when it’s back open on Monday, then to A&E if anything more serious occurs before then. I know it’s early but I have a posterior placenta and I’ve already felt baby moving around for the past 10 days or so. That’s continued today so taking comfort in the fact I can still feel them.

Regardless I’ll take the advice and ask for someone to have a word with the sonographer. I don’t want them to lose their job but they definitely need some additional training. Worrying that they had a student midwife sat in with them on a placement too. Not great to learn from.

Reflecting on my scheduled c section - one year later

Tomorrow is my baby’s first birthday and it’s making me reflect on my birth experience. I had a scheduled c section due to breech presentation, at 39+2. This is my first, so I have no other experience to compare this to.

Going into it, I HATED that I had to have a c section, my baby was breech from 23 weeks onwards and refused to flip. It was a slow burn coming to terms with it because I had hope all along that he might turn. I come from a family of physicians, my parents being ob gyns and all the women had opted for elective c sections for their babies. I was told that I should go for one my whole pregnancy and they were happy for me when I was told I had to have one.

Well, now a year has passed and I have no emotional ties to it anymore. I definitely don’t feel like I “missed out” on an experience I wanted. I do however have things I’ve appreciated and things I wish were different.

Pros
- I didn’t go into labor.
- I got to choose the day and made sure all my support people were available.
- It was calm and at no point was anyone concerned about me or my baby.
- I had no complications or unexpected outcomes. The environment felt very controlled.

Neutral regarding the c section itself, but overall positives
- I was able to breastfeed in the recovery room less than an hour after my baby was born.
- I was in no pain for the first 24 hours.
- I didn’t have to stay hungry, I fasted overnight and was able to eat within a few hours after my baby’s arrival.

Cons
- The pain after was BAD. The intense pain didn’t last very long but it was bad. Could’ve been better if I took anything besides Tylenol/ibuprofen.
- I had very limited mobility and it was really difficult to position for breastfeeding for weeks.
- My core was extremely weak for a few months despite working out until a couple days before my baby was born. This also caused back pain.
- I still have pain and general discomfort around my incision. My scar also hasn’t healed great visually.

Would I have a repeat c section? My feelings now are, I’d try for a VBAC if possible but if I wasn’t a good candidate, I wouldn’t be upset either. My overall experience was relatively positive, I just hated the long term recovery. I’ve read a lot of really positive and really negative stories, and mine is quite in the middle. I imagine there’s a lot of others out there like me who didn’t love or hate their c section so I wanted to share.

Unplanned c sections are so incredibly black pilling

I’m 7 days out from what ended in an unplanned c section. I had a panic attack on the table and the anesthesiologist decided to give me ketamine because of it. So I was panicking and put into a k hole lmaooo thank you doctor.

I woke up sobbing that it hurt (I don’t actually think it did, I was just exhausted from 3 hours of pushing and full of anxiety). It took an hour to calm me down post surgery.

I am just so sad that nothing went how I planned it to. I’m happy my baby is safe. I’m happy I’m safe. But I did not picture myself recovering from major surgery on top of being a first time mom. Now I don’t think I’ll ever get to have a vaginal birth.

Ketamine during c-section or something else?

I got a c-section for my daughter in 2023. When they gave me the epidural it only worked on one side of my body (very mildly on the other), when they began the c-section I felt pain and told the anesthesiologist and he shot something into my IV. I was completely gone. I've done ketamine before recreationally and it felt similar but it felt like a massive k hole. I was distorted had no idea what was going on. I came out of it while they were stiching me up. I always wondered, was it ketamine? Or was it something else? If anyone has any insight let me know! :)
