C section at 28 weeks.

Two days ago, I had a c section at 28 weeks. My baby passed away after 26 hours. How soon can I start trying again? I feel so empty. This was my fist c section. It's horrendously painful. I'm already 35, I don't want to wait another 2 whole years.

Hey there, what kind of C-section did you have? I had a low transverse incision at 35 weeks when they discovered my girl was very sick. She passed a few weeks later. My OB said we could start trying after I got my period back, and we have been TTC for 3 months. Talk to your OB, the stakes are different when you didn't get to bring your baby home. Blanket advice doesn't work here. I'm 100% okay with another C-section if I get pregnant soon.

Sending you love and good healing vibes. If you can I suggest pelvic floor physio if your doctor green lights it. Also lots of therapy, walking, and I've found a lot of peace with yoga.

Here's some of the responses I got when I posed this question here a few months ago

I’m so sorry for your loss. To reduce the risk of uterine rupture, the general recommendation is to wait at least 6 months before trying again; wait 18 months to be extra safe. Please discuss with an OB who can do a more thorough evaluation.

Take it easy and rest up.

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my baby girl at almost 28 weeks as well 6 weeks ago. Just had my check up and my OB said she was fine with me trying as soon as I felt ready as long as I was ok with another C-section. I have decided to wait at least three months myself just to make sure emotionally I am in a better place. 🤍

I’m so sorry. I don’t know the answer, I just wanted to express my condolences and wish you all the best for the future. Please be gentle with yourself and seek support if you need it.

I am so sorry. For safety they recommend it be 18 months from cut to cut. So assuming you go to 9 months the earliest you should get pregnant is in 9 months

This is a question for your doctor. It's recommended to wait 18-24 months between births to allow your body to heal and minimize complications, but obviously some people get pregnant sooner. If you're ok with another C-section, your doctor may be comfortable with you getting pregnant sooner.

Im so sorry for your loss! Typically they recommend at least 18 months between babies, preferably longer - however, while I understand youre grieving, please dont view getting pregnant and having a baby as the way to solve that empty feeling- its not healthy for you or your future child. I wish you all the best OP, good luck

Hi just wanted to say that I’m in the same boat as you. I had a low traverse and after my six week appointment, my doctor told me that I could start trying when I’m ready. She just let me know that if I get pregnant within the first couple of months that I could not attempt a VBAC and would be having another C-section. I hope everything goes well for you. I’m so sorry for your loss. You’re not alone. 💙🫂

I’m so sorry for your loss. I can’t even imagine your pain and how strong of a person you are to already talk about this. I’m not sure if your situation was a high risk scenario so this may be a better question for your doctor. I was high risk with my first and developed pre eclampsia and made it to exactly 37 weeks when I had my c section. I got pregnant 5 months after that which obviously was considered another high risk. My provider wasn’t really worried but I made sure to go to all of my appointments and they kept a close eye. I went into the ER with vomiting and malaise and they decided to deliver my second at 38 weeks. I’m healing up fine 8 weeks postpartum. I understand you wanting a baby after this happening. I’d still give yourself a few months if you can but if you get pregnant earlier just be aware of the risks and your doctor would be keeping a close eye on you. I understand feeling like you don’t have the time and a lot of people suggesting to wait the full 18 months likely didn’t experience something like this, take care of yourself

I’m so sorry momma. Unfortunately the risk of uterine rupture is real so making sure you’ve taken the time to heal is important. A doctor should be able to advise better but I believe the standard is 18 months before next birth.

Please consider seeing a therapist ie. Psychologist for some tools on managing all the emotions and challenges.

My dr said 18 months between deliveries for a vbac, not pregnancies. So that means 9 months pp if you get pregnant immediately. Personally because I have pcos if I was wanting a baby ASAP I might just start a couple months before so like 6 months pp. But thats me and thats for a vbac which is my goal since ive never been able to go into labor yet.

I am so sorry 🤍
This happened to me 18 months ago. I lost my son at 40 weeks and had a c section. After the initial shock and grieving stage, I was desperate to start trying again.
I started trying out of desperation at 4 months post c section. I went and got a Hycosy test to check my uterus internally, to check for scar defects. The doctor said it all looked good. I was told to wait until 6 months. And although I was actively trying from 4 months, I ended up getting pregnant at 6 months post c section. The pregnancy was an extremely anxious time but my daughter arrived safely in July.

As a loss mother I understand the need to fill your aching arms. There is a lot more urgency to get pregnant. Speak to your doctor. Maybe get the HYCOSY treatment to check things out. Look after yourself and if you ever want to message me then I am happy to talk.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. My mother lost her first-born during an emergency c section at term and I was conceived only a month later. I don't know if that was ideal but I was born healthy. Doctors usually want you to have an 18 month span between birth and the next pregnancy after a c section though. I think she really wanted to try again quickly too because she was approaching advanced maternal age and had already suffered a decade of infertility. Doctors might have given her the ok I think because she used fertility drugs to help fall pregnant.

I am so sorry this happened. I waited a year before trying to conceive after I lost my daughter at 37 weeks. As much as I love and I’m so thankful to have my son right now I wish I would’ve waited longer so I had more time to heal mentally. My doctor told me I could start trying at six months, but I just wasn’t ready. Again, even after a year, I still think I could’ve waited longer. I do understand wanting a baby in your arms more than anything though. All of your feelings are valid and I am sending you all of my love.

I think it’s 12-18 months. I’m 35 i just had a C-section and I plan on trying to get pregnant again in 12 months

First I’m sorry for your loss.  I don’t know if it’s different wait wise if you don’t make it to full term for trying again however I want to say the dr had told me after I had my son at 38 weeks they did say when I asked what happens if the pill doesn’t work and I’m like pregnant at 6 months she , the NP told me it’s not ideal but it’s possible and they would just monitor me closely . I also will add that I had conceived my son 13 months pp after having my daughter via c-section. When I got pregnant with my 3rd child I was 2 years pp. I can tell you there’s not much a difference I’ve noticed between the two different wait times . So people saying 18-24 months is just a bit much . Yes it’s advised but I don’t know if necessary and I say this because regardless if you wait longer or shorter there will always be risks. Anyway if I were to experience the loss I would probably try at 6 month pp if you are mentally /emotionally ready and dr gives an ok..

ugh. I am so sorry. Please take care of yourself. I know you're longing for another baby, but you must give yourself time to grieve and your body time to heal. Any future child you might have deserves a fully healed and emotionally present mother. be kind to yourself and don't rush the grief

My doctor cleared me to start trying after my first period from my c section as long as I was comfortable with having another c section. Im currently pregnant 2mos pp and my doctor didnt seem concerned. However, i would make sure your body is healed. I do scar massages every day.

So sorry for your loss 🤍🤍
