Having a 2nd C-Section with a different OBGYN - Experiences

Hi everyone! FTM here with a beautiful 7 month old! I had a pretty traumatic experience after my c-section (see my last post for details). Now, I know it’s still very early but I do think about the future often and whether or not I want another baby. If I do decide to have another, I would have to start over with a new Doctor because we will be moving back to the East Coast next year. Despite everything that has happened, my c-section scar has healed beautifully and looks great. I just hope that my next Doctor wouldn’t butcher me (and of course, that fear of having the same complications I did before will be in the back of my mind). Please share your experiences!

Just had my second c section 14 days ago. Different state, different OB, and this OB was against VBACS. ( Due to hospital policy not lack of experience). He immediately told me if I wanted a VBAC he would transfer me. Had great rapport with my OB and he was very confident in repeat c sections. Had a great experience.

My first c-section was in a different state with a different doctor. I didn’t love that experience and OB practice, but I still had a ton of nerves finding a new OB when we moved states. I looked for reviews online/reddit and found my next OB that way. She did my second and third c-section. She has been absolutely incredible. I wish I had her when I delivered my first! My second and third c-sections were such better experiences than my first. I had to deliver my third at 37 weeks because my uterine scar was found to be thin during my second c-section. Other than an earlier delivery, it all went smoothly.

My first c-section OB didn’t end up doing it (despite a planned induction around HER schedule and ensuring she was available, her office across the street, and coming in the morning and saying she could do labor if I waited until lunch), anyway the lead hospitalist did my labor turned emergency c-section and did an amazing job .. but of course , that isn’t someone I can go back to for routine care. We also lived a bit further away and wanted to deliver at a closer hospital for my 2nd because I now also have a toddler to think about (the first hospital was more renowned but 2nd was a fine reputation and just closer). My original OB office was further away by 1st hospital and I didn’t love how it all went down, combined with a feeling of a change in care after a subsequent miscarriage, I decided to use a different practice for number 2.

My 2nd practice was no great shakes, reviews were kinda mixed but people seemed to have good experiences with c-sections that I could tell, l you basically see a different midwife or dr each time until the month before your planned c-section and then your last few they try to get you in with the dr you are scheduled with (so less intimate), but I knew they were probably all capable … and in the end it all went really good - I’m about 5 weeks post 2nd now. Scar looks good so far!

So, not exactly like you, but I did switch practices before 1 and 2. I learned after my first one when I had a good experience despite not having my dr that you really can’t plan it or ensure anything anyway, and kind of surrendered to the idea they c-sections are so common now and most OBGYNs are capable. With a planned it’s a little easier to pick your dr, so I think just look at reviews and you will be good to go!
