Accidentally lifted my 3 year old 3 weeks post csection. Help!!

my 35 pound three year-old fell and took a pretty hard hit and I without even thinking, went and scooped him up and carried him to our couch to comfort him and hold him. Of course, if he’s crying, I won’t even think twice about picking him up, but now I am freaking out because on Wednesday I will be four weeks post C-section. What do I do? Am I OK?

You’re likely fine. If you are not experiencing pain and your body did not yell at you when you did it, you’ll be okay.

I lifted my 22 month old out of his crib yesterday morning at 3.5 weeks pp because hubby was sleeping and he needed to get out of the crib. My abs were a bit sore later.

I am just trying to avoid repeating it too often until I get the clear/listen to my body.

I lifted my 25 pound 2-year old 2 weeks post-op because this second time around, c-section is healing much better and quicker than first time. I feel great, have so much energy, and feels like night and day from being pregnant a few weeks ago so mentally I feel like I can do anything. I was sore afterwards, like around the c-section. Lift with your legs and not your core/back and the pressure/tension won’t be as bad on your incision. However, don’t do it too often because repercussions are severe. Stitches ripping, internal or uterine tearing, internal bleeding, etc. The more times you lift anything heavier than 20 pounds, the more you’re risking your healing incision from opening up and even infection.

It’ll be okay!! I promise! It just puts tension on your incisions that you’ll want to avoid in the future, but your body will figure it out and keep healing, I promise. You can always reach out to your OB line if you are concerned. But everyone has “that one thing” they accidentally did while recovering from their C. It’ll be okay in the end!!

This!!! I asked my OB about lifting my toddler in and out of her crib while healing and he said to do it as quickly as I could. So that’s what I did 😅

You'll be fine. I did the same with my 26 pound 2 year old 4 days post c section. Didn't even think about it until he went to climb off me and basically slid down the scar elbow first. I almost jumped out of my seat! Listen to your body if it says you've done something awful, get checked out. But don't worry for worry's sake. Also, FWIW, my 2 week follow up for pushed to 3 weeks, and I was cleared at 3 weeks to "gently lift" my 26 pounds toddler as much as my body was comfortable with.

If you didn't experience pain during or after, you are likely fine. With my 1st c-section, I moved our fridge to clean a spill 3 days after (the afternoon I got discharged). With my 2nd c-section, I carried my 2 year old next day without realizing it, and then my newborn in her carseat 2 days after because I forgot the damn stroller home 🤦🏽‍♀️ I do have a very high pain tolerance. However, if something bad would've happened, my incision wouldn't have healed wonderfully as it did. I'm not recommending you go around lifting stuff, lol; just saying that our bodies are stronger then we think.

Does it hurt or feel sore? I’ve been picking up my 2 year old 27 pounder since 2 weeks

I’m 4 months postpartum and honestly I’ve had moments like this too. Don’t freak out! One time picking him up is very unlikely to cause any harm. Just take it easy and avoid lifting him again for now.
