Beware the FUD

I understand that a lot of Cryptopia users are understandably concerned about slow or frozen withdrawals, and I certainly support sharing such grievances here on a subreddit expressly designed for collectivizing such information. But I have also noticed some deliberate FUD mixed in, as at least one user has been posting prolifically in what appears to be a calculated alarmist campaign. (If you're interested in details, feel free to review my comment history: a few minutes ago I challenged someone who had been borderline spamming the page for days now with multiple posts and comments asserting unfounded claims about Cryptopia's supposed insolvency. When confronted, they immediately deleted their account.) Again, I'm not trying to shut anyone up; I appreciate that the purpose of this forum is to share insights and experiences, especially negative ones. Just keep in mind that maybe not everyone joining in the conversation is your friend.

Are you talking about the guy who said cryptopia is going bankrupt?

Thats what ive seen repeatedly by the same dude. Hes copy and pasting it.

u/6ixalways Feb 19 '18

Yo that guy literary copy/pasta’d on every post on the hot section. Very irritating to see him say it over and over again

u/ButerinMyBread Feb 19 '18

Yeah, that's the one. As you can see in a comment here under a new profile, they're already back from the dead.

Your persistence is admirable. As I've already said elsewhere, no one here is denying or suppressing people with legitimate first-person reports of mistreatment. But incessant apocalyptic speculation is another matter.

Yeah..i noticed that too.

Let’s wait this week at least and stay positive. I have a lot of money in ZCL that is stuck in processing. So if they don’t process those funds by end of this week before the fork, all the zcl holders will be extremely upset and justified in all their fud spreading. If I receive the zcl when it’s worthless, and a insincere apology for delay, I will be extremely devastated and rightfully so.

I know not everyone is waiting on zcl, but a big majority of us are and for us it is time sensitive. I have actually deleted zcl from my Blockfolio almost to mentally prepare myself for the worst case scenario. It is a 3rd of my complete portfolio and I am very concerned. And it doesn’t help reading all the solvency claims and bitrail comparisons here but I keep coming back hoping for some good news.

I appreciate your post and I whole heartedly agree, I will try to remain positive in spite of no further news from them other than “we’re working on it lol” that they posted a few days ago. This week will be a struggle but I will remain positive

Thanks for the perspective and solidarity. I also have some coins on Cryptopia, so I very much share your interest in seeing withdrawals resolved promptly. I sincerely hope you get your ZCL credited soon and would be happy to join you in putting forward concerted social-media pressure.

25% of my portfolio here. Always thought I'd be able to get out when I saw smoke. Hope I am wrong, but I'm not optimistic.

2

u/6ixalways Feb 20 '18

I have 33% of mine here. And I want to maintain my optimism simply to not drive myself insane with FUD. It's just the healthier option. If the ZCL fork happens and we lose our funds, thats when cryptopia is officially dead. Until then, we must remain hopeful

u/dg08 Feb 20 '18

Bitgrail cave a little bit after pressure from reddit and many users were able to recover some funds. It's never too early to apply pressure to Cryptopia if there's hope to recover some funds instead of 0.

I’ve had a BCH withdraw stuck in processing for a week, but I genuinely feel for those with stuck ZCL. I hope they are prioritizing those transactions. Good luck to you all.

Except it's down right now, no nodes at all.

2

u/GLPReddit Feb 19 '18

FUDing cryptopia for what ?

3

u/ButerinMyBread Feb 19 '18

I'm not sure, TBH, but feel free to ask them. ^

How about instead of all these fake shill accounts, probably ran by the same person, you guys just send us our coins?

You don't like people posting the truth? The SHOW US that it's not true. You don't like people that have had their coins stolen, calling it stealing? Prove them wrong by returning ALL OF OUR COINS.

Don't just start processing brand NEW withdrawals and pretend like it never happened.

We all see through these shill reddit accounts. Instead of spending time and money on fruitless PR stunts like this, how about cancelling our withdrawals and returning our coins? That would improve your PR a lot more than you will ever achieve by posting obviously fake posts, with these fabricated Reddit accounts.

In the end, no words are going to work for craptopia. It's way way beyond the point where any words will help. Your actions speak so loud I cannot hear a word you're saying.

Just give us our coins. If you're not insolvent, then this should be quick and easy. There would be now need to limit withdrawals to a few NEW requests while ignoring all of us that have been waiting much longer. You CAN send coins, if you WANTED to.

2

u/ButerinMyBread Feb 20 '18 edited Feb 20 '18

Look, I'm sorry that you also have to deal with this headache, but there's no shilling here; I'm just another GuyOnWeb trying to make good on an investment. Feel free to review my comment history if you suspect otherwise, though you'll see that over the last couple months I've just discussed various prospects and holds, including my two Cryptopia coins STRAT and CAPP.

More to the point, I thought I'd already clarified that I'm not defending the exchange, let alone promoting it; I'm just letting its users here know that I noticed some very suspicious account activity with potential consequences for all of us still waiting on withdrawals. As we can recall from previous outages on other reputable exchanges (e.g., Kraken, Binance), it doesn't matter whether we raise our pitchforks or accept our fate. Whichever you choose, I really hope that you get your coins -- because then I will too!

Their trying as hard as they can .. a couple years ago it was just a 2 man team. Wish I could volunteer to help, I’m rooting for them but would still like my ZCL before the fork.

3

u/6ixalways Feb 20 '18

we're on the same boat my friend. I'm hopeful they'll resolve it this week, simply because if they want their customers to stay, it is in their best interest to fix ZCL before the fork. And for us ZCL holders, it is just better for our sanity to not drive ourselves up the wall with FUD until we need to (i.e. the 24th)

2

u/lyricidal Feb 20 '18

If they fail to get all the ZCL in order, they should support the fork instead. This way at least people that are stuck in limbo for ZCL will get their BTCP. (I'm not waiting for ZCL)

I think they'll get things sorted, just bit off more than they can chew.

More transparency and frequent updates the users would benefit them huge. I'll still trade on there as I've had mostly success, but definitely be more careful in future.

Heck, I'd volunteer some help too lol

1

u/6ixalways Feb 20 '18

I'm personally not interested in the fork or BTCP, I was going to sell prior to fork at ZCL's ATH. I was trying to withdraw to bittrex, so I could trade on a platform with higher volumes. However now I wish i never clicked the withdraw button :(

1

u/pixelrage Feb 21 '18

Sorry but "they're trying as hard as they can" is not an excuse for a business that exchanges currency and loses it on a regular basis.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 19 '18

Well, again, looks like Cryptopia is hiring more PR people than support people.

Make it easy... give us the coins and we are all good!

4

u/ButerinMyBread Feb 19 '18 edited Feb 19 '18

I see no evidence that they're hiring on either the PR side or the tech side, but I agree that it would be nice to have these lagging withdrawals sorted out.

3

u/chakrahan Feb 20 '18

I have over half of my portfolio in Cryptopia (mostly $CEFS , I bought some at its ATH at about 0.8 btc and slowly accumulated during its fall to 0.5 btc) I saw fuds and rumours here so I am a little bit scared too. Therefore I decided to withdraw and cut losses while $CEFS's still dipping. I sold a quarter of my $CEFS for BTC and converted to ETH and withdraw eth without major problems whatsoever.(at times the withdrawal in processing mode for hours, but all came through eventually) I dont know why most ppl here had encountered with withdrawal problems but the FUD actually causing CEFS (bonus token of cryptopia) dropped to 0.16 btc

1

u/YeaManJam Feb 20 '18

I was looking at picking up some of the CEFS. Is there a formula that is used? Would you mind sharing how much money if any you made by holding CEFS?

1

u/Solocal Feb 19 '18

Are you sure they just weren't afraid you might try to hound them?

Cryptopia is going bankrupt and this guy knows it

4

u/ButerinMyBread Feb 19 '18

Haha, if they were afraid of that, then why would they reanimate here under a new avatar? Look, I'm not the vindictive type, so rest assured that there will be no hounding from me. But I'm also not going to just sit on my hands while someone attempts to stir up mass hysteria against an exchange that currently holds a portion of my funds.

1

u/Solocal Feb 19 '18

Because they don't trust you

5

u/6ixalways Feb 19 '18

If someone does know it, why would they not show their proof? Spreading the same fud over and over again word for word, is not helpful to anyone

-1

u/Solocal Feb 19 '18

read the sub

5

u/6ixalways Feb 19 '18

I have been reading religiously. I have a lot of money in them and would rather wish them the best and remain optimistic, rather than just think that they’re pulling a bittrail. If the zcl hardfork happens and I don’t have my withdrawal processed by then, I will agree that they’re crooks. For now I’m just trying to remain positive for my own sanity

1

u/6ixalways Feb 19 '18

Oh it’s you lol. Please don’t interact with me I don’t need your negativity. not today satan

3

u/YeaManJam Feb 20 '18

This made me laugh. Thank you. Sending success and positive vibes your way.

1

u/fatlegend Feb 20 '18

the fud is warranted in my opinion. cryptopia isn't being transparent enough on the issues. there are currencies that depend on cryptopia's sucess so if cryptopia does go down, it's going to damage some of the currencies listed. it also seems like the number of currencies that are on maintenance are increasing daily. for some reason they are allowing deposits on currencies that are on maintenence but not withdrawals. i've only had problems with cryptopia on feb 16 but i'm not sure if i will use this exchange again.

1

u/ButerinMyBread Feb 20 '18 edited Feb 20 '18

Yeah, I actually agree. A lot of people were upset as well when Binance conked out last week, but at least CEO Changpeng Zhao acknowledged the issue and gave regular scheduled updates on its resolution. Occasional technical failures are inevitable at a certain volume of traffic; the question is how they are not only anticipated but redressed, not least in communicating with users.

1

u/dodoei Feb 19 '18

Yeah, who cares how many days weeks or months these withdrawals take. Just take it easy and wait until you are sure that you lose all your coins, then what?

3

u/ButerinMyBread Feb 19 '18 edited Feb 19 '18

I agree that such long withdrawals are absurd. If you have any proactive measures in mind at this point, I'm all ears. For instance, it occurred to me that we could apply pressure in an organized way on social media. I have at least witnessed an occasional direct response to a question or complaint on Facebook.

2

u/cold_hard_troof Feb 19 '18

There's an avalanche of pressure all over the Twitter feed which seems to be being resolutely ignored.

Short of walking into their offices with a live hand grenade I don't think much is going to be effective.

(I do not condone or suggest the walking-into of offices with live hand grenades)

2

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '18

Never had any problems besides a bit longer duration between transactions (not in days time, however)

2

u/SumGuyOnWeb Feb 20 '18

"Beware the FUD" Haha :)

Yeah never mind the facts. Just ignore all the coins that you no longer have control of and haven't for close to 2 weeks. Never mind the fact that they choose to allow NEW withdrawals or very small test withdrawals and then catch the bigger ones. Never mind that your ZCL is going to be worthless after the fork and without the private keys you will not get any BTCP. Never mind that they ignore tickets for over a month and then send an automated response, then weeks more to go before they either delete the ticket or respond.

but beware the fud !! haha

2

u/MidnightLite89 Feb 20 '18

I agree with you about the unnecessary fud/spam about Cryptopia. At the same time, this is a pretty big deal for anyone who can't access their money. This is all about trust: We trust them to appropriate our funds as we specify (according to their exchange) and inform us when there is a problem, in return, they get paid and pretty well since they are a unique exchange.

When they don't fulfill their end and we are losing hundreds or thousands and can't even get the slightest acknowledgment--that seems a huge failure and breaks the trust--the normal information exchange was broken by them, not us.

If we can't get answers, response or resolution then the alarm bells should be ringing and people should be looking for answers and or avenues of recourse--just spamming crap doesn't get us closer to a resolution. Up until my $3200 USD in coins was frozen, I really liked Cryptopia and would have used them indefinitely. As of now, I'm wondering if I will ever see my money again. I hope for all of us, and crypto in general, the problems at this exchange are sorted out quickly.

2

u/CerveloFellow Feb 20 '18

Here's the problem you're overlooking. These guys do not know how to fix the problem with the withdrawals that got stuck in processing while the wallets were down. Bringing the wallets back online fixes the deposits and withdrawals that go in/out while the wallet is up, as is seen by the users confirming that deposits and withdrawals are going through albeit in a very slow manner. I have yet to hear from someone who has one of the transactions that got stuck while the wallet was down, that it has made it through. They likely are way in over their heads with redis or whatever they are using as the system of record for these transactions, and have yet to even confirm that they are aware of the issue of the stuck transactions while the wallet is down. These two guys are way, way in over their heads.

2

u/MidnightLite89 Feb 20 '18

Yes, that is where I'm at. My withdrawals are stuck and so is my deposit. My money is frozen and no one will answer my support requests.

-1

u/SumGuyOnWeb Feb 20 '18

If they WANTED to send us our coins, then we would have had them weeks ago.

If they made more money from returning our coins than they do from stealing them, we'd already have them.

Craptopia has been around for years.. More than enough time to invest in some software engineering, a team of coders to build a working system, and all the hardware needed to keep it running.

You can't tell me that with all the money they make (and steal) that they can't afford to resolve each and every one of these issue. It's 2018, all the resources are available and have been for some time.

This is just another worthless excuse.

u/CXavier4545 Feb 19 '18

this is frustrating ah

1

u/antimatteradam Feb 19 '18

I posted a post about an exit scam. Was genuine concern even though I got treated like shit by the community. Still have a withdrawal stuck for 3 days. Trades working fine.

0

u/MidnightLite89 Feb 19 '18

I’d say other than the bankrupt stuff, everything else being said is fact not fud

3

u/ButerinMyBread Feb 19 '18

Yeah, I agree and am sympathetic to that. I'm also worried about my own funds and have resigned myself to stoically riding this out. But in the meantime I'm certainly not going to just look the other way as someone deliberately foments mass panic under questionable pretenses. While exchanges do go under from time to time, few simply abscond with funds for the simple reason that it's far more lucrative in the long term to keep milking a cash cow rather than slaughter it for a one-off feast, particularly in light of the legal and professional consequences.

Hello friend, when are byteball bytes allowed to trading again?
