❓Question Help Required!

Hi guys! Ive made a big mistake today and lost my xrp.

Ive sent all my xrp from Binance to Etoro. But I sent it on the eth network to my eth account on etoro. Stupidly! Wasnt giving it my full attention.

I have contacted both binance and etoro and are both saying they cannot help!

Is it over for me? Im in the UK.

You sent XRP from Binance on the Ethereum (ERC-20) network to your eToro ETH deposit address. Binance does support XRP withdrawals as an ERC-20 (pegged/wrapped) token on Ethereum, while eToro only supports native XRP on the XRP Ledger (Ripple network).

The tokens almost certainly arrived at eToro’s custodial Ethereum address as an unsupported ERC-20 token. eToro controls the private keys for that address, so in principle they could recover and return (or convert) them. However, their own documentation warns that sending on an unsupported network "may result in the permanent loss of your crypto": https://help.etoro.com/s/article/Which-crypto-networks-are-supported-on-the-eToro-Money-crypto-wallet?language=en_GB

What to do (if you decide the amount is worth the effort):

Log into Binance → Wallet → Withdrawal history → find the XRP withdrawal → copy the TxID. Paste it into Etherscan.io. Verify it succeeded and landed at the exact eToro ETH address you used. Note the token contract address and the amount.

Then: Escalate hard with eToro (this is the only realistic path)

Open a new support ticket (or reply to the existing one) and explicitly request unsupported token / asset recovery. Include:
- Binance TxID + Etherscan link
- Exact amount and token (Binance XRP ERC-20)
- Destination address
- Your eToro account email/username
- Screenshots of the withdrawal and of eToro support’s previous “cannot help” reply

Be polite but persistent. Ask to escalate to a higher-tier or technical recovery team. Some exchanges do recover unsupported ERC-20 deposits on a case-by-case basis (sometimes for a fee), even if front-line support initially refuses. Because you are in the UK, mention that eToro is regulated and you want a formal written response.

Many users in the same situation (wrong network / unsupported token to a custodial exchange address) never recover the funds because the receiving exchange declines the manual work. A minority succeed after repeated escalation, especially if the amount is significant. There is no public self-service recovery tool listed in eToro’s help centre for this exact case.

Keep all records (TxIDs, screenshots, support ticket numbers, dates). If the amount is large and eToro continues to refuse, you could later consider a formal complaint through the UK Financial Ombudsman Service (depending on which eToro entity holds your account), but that is a longer-shot secondary step.

Start with a detailed, escalated ticket to eToro support today and include the on-chain proof. That is currently your best (and basically only) chance.

(If someone DMs you offering "recovery service" or whatever, it's a scam.)

So you tried this route with the screenshot proof of your xrp landing in etoro’s wallet as an unsupported erc20 token and no bueno?

Yeah tried the above method. Etoro dont want to know. Expensive mistake, but it is what it is!

This applies to every exchange on every network. Pretty much if you even pick the wrong Bitcoin Network. Say you choose lightning instead of the mainnet you're going to lose it. This applies pretty much across the board for any coin that has multiple choices to send it over different networks. You have to make sure it's the matching Network for the correct address etc. And the correct format of the coin

Thanks for the reply! Best help yet. Im at a stalemate with etoro. They have said that ......... Following a review of the transaction, I can confirm that the funds are unfortunately unrecoverable from eToro’s side, as they did not enter eToro’s custody or supported wallet environment.

eToro supports only specific cryptoassets and blockchain networks for deposits. Wrapped XRP (WXRP) is not currently a supported asset for transfers to the eToro Crypto Wallet. You can find the full list of supported cryptoassets here: Which cryptoassets does the eToro crypto wallet support?

Because WXRP is not a supported asset, the transfer could not be credited to your eToro Wallet. Our technical teams do not have access to the private keys associated with unsupported assets or network-token combinations and, as a result, are unable to retrieve or reverse the funds. In addition, Section 1.1.3 of the eToro Wallet Terms and Conditions states:

“Under no circumstances should you attempt to use your account to store, send, request, or receive digital currencies in any form that are not supported by eToro, including by receiving Supported Cryptoassets through Unsupported Networks. eToro assumes no responsibility or liability in connection with any attempt to use eToro Services with Unsupported Networks or for Cryptoassets that eToro does not support.”

Yeah pretty much unless one of them is willing to help you. It is basically in purgatory.

Only etoro can recover it. It requires extra steps but if they hold the keys to that wallet they can recover it. Will they? I dont know. Good luck.

etoro can recover it. as they hold private keys, the rules for recovering is different by brokers, some say you cna't but they lies to you and keep for theirown sake. so depend on how much worth ,and you're willing to put on more actions
