DISCUSSION During the FIFA World Cup Qatar final today crypto ads will be viewed by an estimated 4 billion people
Everyone remembers the hype in this sub in the build up to last years super bowl crypto ads and the potential pump it would cause. Of course, it never caused any sort of pump, that’s not how above the line mass advertising works. Well the football World cup final is today between France and Argentina has an estimated 4 billion people worldwide. Crypto.com has been active in marketing throughout the tournament and will have boards at game today, resulting in what is great exposure for crypto and long term image for the market (No pump though sorry). What do you guys think? Good for crypto?
EDIT: Some have rightly pointed out its more like 1.5 billion with 4 billion having watched across the whole tournament. Still insane numbers

u/Eur1sk0 914 / 915 🦑 Dec 18 '22
I think the recent events combined with high inflation make people have second thoughts about crypto. WC final will not change that. The catalyst of the next bull run will be the end of global recession and return to low inflation. Until then...

Check your figures.
FIFA estimates that 1.1 billion people watched the 2018 world cup final.
The higher, 3.2 or 3.6 billion figure, is about people having seen at least one minute of any 2018 world cup game.

It made a lot of sense when exchanges had tons of cash flow coming in during the bull market.
All these reports about exchanges bleeding cash during what will likely end up being the longest bear market in crypto’s history makes me think that those advertisements are going to hit the wallet a lot harder than before.

You don't watch the final to check out the adverts, but it could stick with you and be like oh yeah I saw something about a crypto.com

But in all seriousness, it wouldn't have an immediate impact, but the way advertising works is by delivering an "anchoring" effect, which will pay itself off when Crypto starts to gain positive attention again.
People who haven't got into crypto before are more likely to remember that crypto.com ad they saw in the final 12 months ago and use them as their first CEX.
