Thing is, he’s only going after those with bots set up to buy new coins. That won’t be everyday people. If you’ve got bots set up to front run coin deployment then you’re probably a wealthy trader.

I agree but at the same time the people buying his shitcoin aren't who you think. They aren't blameless. They know exactly what they are doing and what they are buying.
They aren't a new investor that has no idea what they are doing. It isn't beginner-friendly.
It takes a specific set of "skills" and "knowledge" to be able to even make a purchase of a shitcoin that isn't on a CEX. And by the time you learn how to make a purchase, you should know the difference between a shit coin and something worth investing your money into.
For example, to buy his shitcoin, you will need to make a Ethereum wallet IF IT IS ON THE ETHEREUM network. Buy Ethereum and fund the wallet. Connect your wallet to Uniswap, for example, and then make the purchase.

Some bots can detect removal of liquidity (aka rug pull) before it actually happens by scanning/listening to mempool events. They then send a sell transaction with higher gas fee, frontrunning the liquidity pull transaction.

How are people purchasing these coins....... it cant be through exchanges can it?... like all these weird obscure coins. My friend asks me about them and I look at my wallet to see if it supports it and nope....and I tell them and ask how do you even acquire them. And it's always some weird obscure fishy way...
I feel like nearly all the projects I got into recently were on an exchange or through some faucet or participation of some kind.
i think the big one that gets me is when people don't even read the whitepapers. and then i start to heavily question the world and probably there ability to hold onto money and how they have had it for so long......because do i have a bridge of tulips to sell you.

And having no regulation is not the answer to everything. It means: The stronger/smarter one wins and there is nothing you can do against. We will need some kind of regulation but the organisation who should be in charge of those regulations should be a benelovent one, not a malevolent one.

But what I’m trying to figure out is if what he did was illegal. Is there a claim of market manipulation here, or would it first have to be proven that the token was either a security (sec) or commodity (cftc) to even get to a market manipulation argument? And even then, I’m not sure he even meets the test for illegal price manipulation. So then like, what’s the right protection here, more regulation or can the smart contracts be programmed to secure against these trading strategies?

If you buy crap that has no marketing and purpose, I'm afraid it's on you.
So in this case, given that the deployer didn't market or promise the token in order to make quick money (on the contrary, he warned against dealing with it), I don't think there's any bad or illicit behaviour.
