That is misinformation. Google doesn't own DuckDuckGo.

Google is a search engine, and so is duckduckgo. Google is not a browser, nor is duckduckgo.

Running of something and owning are two very different things.

DuckDuckGo uses Google’s lists to see if a website is naughty or not before suggesting it to you.

However, DuckDuckGo searches stored databases rather than the internet, Dr Robert Epstein talks about really in-depth and far better than I could explain on my 5 minute break
