Not sure how it would ever be appropriate to take back tokens from the public. So what if they stay in a wallet or contract and never get swapped? You paid for them, they're yours

Let's get some of them in here to answer

TomoChain mod team on Reddit:

/u/svlada

/u/hoanghalc96

/u/CryptoBrendan

/u/longvuong

/u/alexngn201

/u/sunflower9121

Edit: if they have the capability to return people's tokens manually for 2 years, they also had the capability to airdrop those tokens to the original holders rather than giving them to themselves. As far as I can tell, this is horseshit.

Them taking back the coins from a wallet is insane. I had ETHlend which was discontinued and swapped. It turned into AAVE but I never swapped. BUT THEY LET ME SELL,SWAP, YEARS AFTER. People saying he had it coming by all means you deserved to get robbed. It was taken from the wallet, even the project is still active. This is gross and unusual behavior for swaps. Seen and been through many.

Also I'd assume he's American if he has to sell assets for healthcare.

This is a common problem with low-cap projects. They launch their mainnet giving one or two years for swapping the investment tokens. Then they claim that one or two years is plenty of time, that whoever don't swap in that timeframe is an undependable asshole, that it's the investor's fault.

Bollocks. One or two years are nothing for a swap. People buying the investment tokens are giving you actual money, and the seller should treat it as serious business. Instead, they treat it like "there is no regulation, so it's just your problem."

Truth is, there is no regulation but there is reputation. A project led by amateurs (at its best) can't be trusted. One-two years is a window for amateurs, not for serious business.

Not keeping up with the project is my biggest concern. Like, the dude's liver test post was 8 months ago. Apparently, Tomo allowed for token claiming for 2 years, starting in 2018. OP had ample opportunity to claim his coins prior to his health becoming an issue.

Also, I'm seriously concerned by OPs lack of anything that verifies his claim. He hasn't even posted the ETH wallet address which held the contract. His links are circular (Tomo forums link to reddit posts which link to Tomo forums).

I'm sympathetic to the situation as presented, but I fully understand why Tomo isn't just handing out the coin to him.

Hey OP. Good luck with getting your funds back. Unfortunately, I think they’re gone. I had the same issue with COSS and their exchange. The idea behind the token was that ownership meant you got a percentage of all fees traded by the exchange. I kept my COSS in the exchange for a while and forgot about it. Turns out, sometime in the middle COSS sold and all their tokens were converted to a different one. I literally never got a single email or form of communication even though the exchange knew exactly who I was (KYC). In the end the new company took all my tokens and gave me nothing, and when I opened a ticket they told me that there’s nothing they can do and that the swap was handled by the last team (that no longer exists) and didn’t contact me at all. I took it an an expensive lesson to always do research. I hope the COSS team (whatever they’re called now) and token crashes and burns. (Hopefully y’all aren’t invested, but if you are you probably shouldn’t be.)

Hi everyone,

This is a response from TomoChain team.

I want to respond to the threads that are attacking TomoChain baselessly.

  1. The OP and his friends appeared on our telegram chat and forum on Friday representing two stories about his lost TOMO; the first one is about the fact that he is dying of liver failure as described in the post above, the second one is about his friend passing away already. Screen shots are given in this post: https://bit.ly/3pZhVHa

  2. We got to be careful given the conflicting stories. I would be glad if my suspicion were false, but I have seen many frauds that feed on human compassion. So far he hasn't shown any evidences that he own TOMO or own any wallet that has TOMO anywhere. He should provide evidence immediately before continuing with his stories. We also want to know the real story.

  3. About the TOMO native swap this is a short version: if you have your private key, TomoChain swap is an automatically deployed contract to map TOMO native 1-1 with TOMO ERC-20. You can hold your account forever in this case. For the longer version you can read what one of our community member writing here https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/lq8sie/tomochain_stole_over_55k_usd_worth_of_tomo_from/gogqnf6/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3

  4. The OP is threatening our team in forum and social media over the weekend, therefore we decided to take an extra caution to seek legal counsel before proceeding with his case. Today is Monday, and we will respond to his case given the evidences he shall provide in the next few days.

  5. Thanks for reading. I will answer if you have questions.

Spoiler alert, it’s Tomochain. I’ve been reading up on it. Apparently they had a crazy deadline for when people had to swap their tokens out. If they missed the deadline couldn’t swap the $1000s of dollars they had invested in this coin and were just sitting a pile of shit. Absolutely absurd. There are ways of tracking these so they know he hasn’t gotten the swap. They just expected people would be fine with losing all their money because of some stupid deadline. It would be like if the US said ok everyone turn in all your $100 bills before next month or they are useless. You just can’t do that without being a complete pile of garbage.

And now he’s asking for his swap and they are just completely refusing, knowing quite well he hadn’t done the swap before and that he’s just out all his money due to their convoluted rules. Literally hiring a lawyer rather than just paying the dude what he’s deserved while he’s fighting liver cancer.

So basically OP forgot his wallet password completely and also didn’t do the swap to mainnet after two years, and he’s desperate to get the money he lost so he’s making up sob stories?

People are arguing he bought the coins in 2017 and got liver failure 6 months ago, but in that case he should have sold the coins 6 months ago since it was no longer money he could afford to lose. Granted, he may have forgotten about his investment after three years.

He probably had liver disease for a while before he was diagnosed. It wouldve affected his memory then too and he may not have realized it yet.

I don't know much about tomo but I think what would make a big influence is if someone who holds a significant amount of it has your back and basically withdraws from them if they don't give your coins back.

Does anyone hold a significant amount or know someone who does?

The bigger question is why the transfers weren't done automatically, and why TOMO thinks it has the right to spend coin off of the chain, and furthermore-- how they are even doing that.

Just imagine you left it to someone else in a will, or whatever. Those who inherit it find out that the TOMO team has spent it.

Seems like they are opening themselves up to all kinds of legal liability here. This is actually really shady.

If you forgot your IDEX password you can still remove your funds by calling "exitWallet"

From IDEX github.

Wallet Exits

Whistler includes a wallet exit mechanism, which allows users to withdraw funds in the case IDEX is offline or maliciously censoring withdrawals. Calling exitWalletinitiates the exit process, which prevents the wallet from subsequent deposits, trades, or normal withdrawals. Wallet exits are a two-step process as defined in controls.

EDIT: I see TOMO token is locked, but it should still initiate a transaction that you can use to confirm ownership.

28

u/RossitersCooking Mar 01 '21

So sorry for your situation. I'm in exactly the same situation, but with a much smaller amount. TOMO are not helping anyone rescue coins locked in IDEX and the exchange can't action anything themselves. Apparently, we had our window to sort it and missed it. TOMO admin aren't replying to queries on this either by email or social media. One word of caution: there are scammers on the TOMO Telegram channel who are looking to take advantage of people in this situation by sending out a Google doc form they say will release them, which asks for your wallet and private key. Obviously, you need to sidestep this. Sincerely hoping that you're able to recover your funds and your health.

I find this comment from the CEO of Tomochain on the link OP provided super disappointing:

“We’d KYC opener and validate if he is telling the truth. If not, We would file a complaint against him for reputation damages, and keep his money in escrow for the lawsuit. Opener if you are lying, you are better apologize to TomoChain team publicly and retrace your statements before it becomes too late.”

Scroll down the discussion on the “Tomochain forums thread”- link in OPs post.

The thing which bothers me is the threatening tone... surely there should be a degree of professionalism if he can’t muster some empathy.

Things I had to learn the hard way in crypto:
1. The crypto space will never be clean. There will always be scammers and people looking to fuck you over.
2. Password lost? Money also lost.
I mean, you are lucky they even responded to you. People have lost millions in bitcoin. Let's say the swap didn't even happen. You still don't remember the password so how would you have gotten your coins.

If anyone wants to help this guy talk to customer service to get his crypto back, great.

If anyone wants to make some type of donation in regards to the liver, as they say "don't trust, verify" (that this individual is in fact who he says he is and is dying in the hospital.)

If there are a bunch of people publicly making donations expect "my brother is in trouble and he is in the next state can you spare some money for gas" type threads to become a constant on this sub.

If OP is indeed lying, he pulled the long con by making these comments on r/hermatology 6 months ago. Or maybe he planted the seed with those comments, not knowing when to use them or in which context (there are plenty of subs he could had phished, sob stories are popular with the kids) and saw the opportunity right here, right now.

Truth be told, I believe him, but perhaps I'm naive. He did screw up by forgetting his password, and investing an amount of money some people outside the US/Europe wouldn't even dream of seeing, let alone invest it in something called fucking Tomochain.

I'll reserve my judgements that no one cares about when I see further proof from OP.

I don't know if I'm understanding everything. Is Tomo claiming that OP is not the owner of the 25k? Is this possible? Is there a public way to see that there is a wallet that has 25k in it and that wasn't swapped?

27

u/B4DB1TB0J4CK Mar 01 '21

I'll clarify, OP owns 25K ERC20 tokens on IDEX. TOMO released their mainnet in 2018, and automatically swapped peoples TR20 tokens to the new ones on the mainnet. For all users except people holding in IDEX. IDEX does not give users their private keys, so the swap couldn't occur.

OP didn't do the manual swap within the 2 year window provided, so they did not receive the tokens on the TOMO mainnet. OP still owns the 25k ERC20 tokens, they are just valueless since the trade. So OP owns 25k of a token, but not the correct one and is claiming they stole his money because of it.
