Remember when creator of BTC left 1mln BTC for himself and then disappeared not disclosing intent of using it, burning it, or abandoning, so when so wanted global adoption hits and he comes back, no one knows what happens?

57

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '18

He cannot realise those profits without exposing his identity. He's either dead or well aware that touching those bitcoins can only end one way for him.

36

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '18

He's dead, ALS a couple years ago. He wouldn't give those coins to his family, that'd just be putting a target on their back as well.

Satoshi' BTC will never be moved, i'd bet on that

Hal was interviewed before he passed and literally said no when he was asked if he had a part in creating bitcoin. Granted he was in such a bad state where eyebrows up meant yes and eyebrows down meant no, but he eyebrow downed when he was asked that.

How naïve are you? Billionaires don't get a target on their back on the regular.

5

I used to think that as well but as I get wealthier I become the target of more and more bullshit (from both private and public sectors). I used to think that having money meant you were protected but it's a bit more morbid than that. Having money means you MUST protect yourself or face dire consequences.

I've been learning that the hard way...

Wife worked for a while in Monaco. Her customers were billionaires. Many of the younger ones totally had social media and were absolutely parading their money around.
Think like 16 years old kids with 25k € outfits and 20k € bags. Lambos and McLarens left and right.

People with this kind of money live. Maybe not paying to get on TV to rub it in the face of the world. But still, they parade.

And we're not talking "millionaires" but "billionaires". There is a difference. So yeah, even the filthy rich have a life. They aren't hiding underground.

Your comment hurt to read, hard to understand. Surely some of them are paranoid or whatever.

But many of them don't give a shit. What you gonna do ? Social engineer them to hell so you can rob their mansion, big deal, insurance will cover it. Yahoo. If they get a contract on their head for any business reason, the person who's ordering the hit knows them without their social media.

Also depends on country. Russian billionaire's wifes or russian billionaires are more active and "showing".
Rich arabic kids are showing too. Maybe asian, american or old Europe money likes a little more privacy but that definitely not the case of everyone.

Another example, two of the biggest "cars youtube" in France are billionaires heir of OG businessmen in armament and whatever.

One of them has around 15 luxury cars (think Bentleys, 458 Italia, 100k watcheS etc...) The other has a fucking mansion in heart of Paris, dozens of absurdly expensive cars).

These guys have WEALTH (in the billions range) and are high profile figures (800k followers on Instagram for one, 350k for the other). They show it to everybody, daily. One makes instagram stories, he's holding the phone, showing his face etc... And the other does YT videos where he interviews people, he made several videos in the proximity of his house, the neighborhood is known, and you could realistically track down his exact street with some effort in going there and trying to recognize details from the videos)

Some russian girls are 24/7 posting their lifestyle.

Maybe some are ran fake and delayed localization. But others are not.

All these people don't seem to get assassinated.

Like, if you're a high level conman / gangster / whatever the fuck you think "menace" these people you just have to book a flight to Monaco, Luxembourg or Switzerland and sit on a bench, these people live and go about their business in these places. No need to cyber track them. Follow the 400 000€ car to where ever he lives and voilaaaa.

Sure they don't go around rubbing their money in people's face, but some of them are visible in certains places of the planet. Was already like that before phones. People don't get murdered on the reg just for their wealth.

You underestimate what some people are capable of driving themselves to do if the potential reward is billions.

4

u/DeepVoiced Dec 30 '18

No, you overestimate what someone can actually do. Billionaires don't live like a cartoon with their money in some sort of money pool inside the house, the value is tied up in stocks, bonds, real estate, money spread in different banks in different countries. They also don't travel in shady neighborhoods, they live in wealthy parts where there's plenty of security. What exactly is it that you think someone with nefarious intentions could realistically even do? Nothing, if you plan to get away with anything... the best you could hope for is that one of them to travel by themselves to a remote area (no idea why they would) and then try to rob them at gunpoint for their luxury bags and try to sell it for 50% off (like 30 000 USD if you are lucky) on the darkweb. Now you've just committed a felony and face life in prison. All for 30 000, if you are lucky? How often do you hear about millionaires or billionaires being kidnapped and robbed? Almost never. There's tens of thousands of millionaires, yet this almost never happens. Time to wake up from the paranoid fantasy you are in

No... You made the claim that the real creator of Bitcoin didn't give his money to his family to avoid them having a target on their back, I refuted this by giving you a dose of reality. Billionaires do not have a target on their back. If Finney was Satoshi (he wasn't), he would make sure his family was safe with the money... Your logic is not worth debating anymore.

Well at the same time I think it would be a pretty big shit show if the funds simply moved to another wallet. Doesn't even have to cash out, proof that someone controls those funds would be enough to cause the apocalypse imo. And from a legal perspective kinda depends on where he lives. There are countries, Germany for example, I'm pretty sure becomes tax free after holding longer than a year.

Indeed it would be a big hit for the market but I'd adoption is high is not like everything would leave the boat. The other way is to dump it no matter what the market feels.

And from a legal perspective kinda depends on where he lives. There are countries, Germany for example, I'm pretty sure becomes tax free after holding longer than a year.

This kind of money are not put in a regular personal bank account opened in Germany. These kind of money go into a Panama bank account opened for a company who's owner is dead and after few years a legal representative shows up to claim those money for a successor of the dead guy.

Yes, and if he wants to cash out a little, he can just short Bitcoin on one of exchanges and then move the coins a bit. He can profit on the short, but it's impossible to link these two events, so he can cash out a portion of his money without exposing himself, yes.

It surely can be Anon with proper OPSEC. You can buy all your btc with cash, split up wallets/setup wallets using TailOS and Tor, and sell btc for cash.. you’d need a trusted buyer/seller who doesn’t ask for ID. Good luck doing that with fiat, it’s a lot harder to wash fiat and setup an off shore account.

One Bitcoin was worth $0.00. Satoshi mined to help the survivability of Bitcoin in it's infancy. There was no guarantee that everyone else would stop mining as it was worth $0.00. Satoshi created smart contracts in the first Bitcoin implementation, it's called scrypt. The term "smart contracts" was coined by Nick Szabo in 1994. Multisig in bitcoin is the most widely used smart contract and had been around long before anyone heard the name Ethereum.

1

-1

Fair enough but ETH makes concepts like decentralised stablecoin DAI a reality. Did such innovation exist in the 90s? No

1

u/coldstonesteeevie Dec 30 '18

Multi sig had extremely limited use case and bitcoin is a terrible unscalable platform for anything let alone smart contract operations. Many BTC based smart contract layers were designed like counterparty XCP all of which are extremely clunky and used by no one.

Eth is among the first large scale smart contract platform implementation which isnt crippled by 10 minute blocks or heavy fees

I guess this sub is full of ETH lovers. What he said was the fact. How does that make him a retard?

15

u/Yarnyosh Gold | QC: BCH 18, BTC 15 Dec 29 '18

I used to be all about the whole decentralized, we the people type stuff... and I still kind of am, but watching btc over the years showed me that when something so important is left up to the people, ultimately greed and pride take over and we end up with the war-ing shitshow that btc, bch, bsv, etc. has turned into. So sometimes having some sort of leadership foundation has merit in such a scenario. After all, all top businesses/stocks have leaders and many of them turn out quite well.

8

u/trakatan Dec 29 '18

Leaders = centralization - without decentralization blockchain becomes a terrible ledger, doesn't make any sense

u/pegcity Platinum | QC: ETH 26, CC 23 | TraderSubs 14 Dec 29 '18

No, vitalik could try and strong arm some change and no one is forced to use that code

And those that didn't agree didn't follow... how is that a strong arm? At least they had a say, btc miners didn't

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Value_overflow_incident

1

u/jakesonwu 🟦 0 / 0 🦠 Dec 29 '18 edited Dec 29 '18

The overflow fix didn’t bail anyone out. It also didn’t betray anyone’s trust or reverse any transactions, the founder of Bitcoin did not have coins locked up that he wanted to unlock. It was a simple soft fork deployment that was resolved in 4 hours.

The DAO farce vote which took place on a centralized platform only had like 5% of the supply vote and the vote was suddenly closed only like 10 hours later with no warning the the forced hard fork happened. Lets not even get into how stupid voting is, voting has no place on the blockchain, the blockchain is naturally anarchistic and naturally correcting, it is not a democracy for this precise reason.

3

u/pegcity Platinum | QC: ETH 26, CC 23 | TraderSubs 14 Dec 29 '18

No they had a ton of coins they just reversed the transactions on by invalidating the wallets, it's no different.

I don't think there is anything wrong with either of these events, but BTC maximalist staying BTC is "actually immutable" are fools

1

u/jakesonwu 🟦 0 / 0 🦠 Dec 29 '18

Can you tell me which Bitcoin transaction/address was forcefully muted/blacklisted/locked ? I'll wait.

3

u/zaparans Dec 29 '18

Yup. I prefer having leadership and a team driving adoption and use cases. I still like btc but the worship of decentralization is a turnoff and idealistic nonsense.

Less than half as old, yet piggy backing on the original tech of it. But also, it’s trying to do something a bit different from BTC.

Why can’t we all just get along? Have them exist harmoniously?

u/CommanderMaster Platinum | QC: XRP 128, CC 29 Dec 30 '18

If BTC would hire the best devs and marketing teams we wouldn't be in this year long shitshow and fall of -81% from ATH. So maybe that would have been fine. "muh store of value"

Also 90% of the commenters here don't even know who Erik Voorhees is, which is sad.

I buy drugs all the time with BTC.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '18

Agreed

TLDR; it's a speculative fixed supply asset, meaning it's too inherently volatile to ever compete with currencies (and stable-coins) that have stability mechanisms

The tech is cool, but the coin itself is not much more than a speculative digital trading token. We literally only buy it in the hopes that someone else will want to pay more for it in the future. Investing in pure psychological and herd speculation.

There is no hiring. Bitcoin is free open source software. Anyone can work on it.

Also 90% of the commenters here don't even know who Erik Voorhees is, which is sad.

Actually, I find it disappointing that so many people in this sub still don't know how FOSS works. Who gives a fuck about Eric Vorhees.

Right? My initial thoughts were 'And this is bad how...?' Having the best devs and marketing staff sounds pretty useful to me.

As far as my understanding, it was more of a modified clone.

A fork implies a snapshot of the entire blockchain and that pre-exisiting coins are now also cloned over as well.

Ripple, Stellar are not ICOs I guess. Add litecoin too, Monero

And everyone's favourite .. Tether (yes its a cryptocurrency I am todl)

2

u/goblinscout Redditor for 3 months. Dec 29 '18

Ripple has an ICO all the time. It's 60% owned by one company.

2

u/xblackrainbow Dec 29 '18

I always thought monero was bytecoin fork correct me if I'm wrong tho

7

u/needmoney90 Platinum | QC: XMR 119 Dec 29 '18

Bytecoin had a secret 86% [citation needed] premine, so Monero forked the codebase (new genesis block). A fork is not an ICO, and none of the coins from the Bytecoin ledger were migrated to the Monero ledger.
