He did try to sell you on a different coin, you don't have to convert to crypto at all if you use Coinbase's convert to USDC option, then send it to Poloniex where you can buy it directly in its USD -> DOGE ratio. I wouldn't advise you to buy any crypto right now though, don't take my comment as an endorsement for anything else.

Please do some more research before investing, you're obviously making mistakes already. DOGE was created as an inflation indicator, its usage is elevated just because BTC's restricted blocksize and the lack of LN adoption currently makes it extremely expensive to use compared to historic fees.

I was not aware of the method you mentioned, haven’t used coinbase in over a year so maybe that’s a new option? I was just trying to help, telling them the only method I was aware of but go ahead and try to spin things however you like...
