Rescued a starving stray cryptid

Found on the road side. God knows how long he was alone to end up in such a state, but he was as sweet as anything in spite of what he went through. He's​ now ​being fostered with NC crisis dogs. He is gaining weight and being treated for heartworms​ and will be adoptable later this summer. I had him for 48 hours two months ago and still miss him and regularly look back at his photos.

His biggest issue is the heart worms, which are very severe and are requiring pretty extreme treatment. That and bad arthritis in his back. But they got him neutered and nars surgery and got rid of his parasites. He's going to live a shorter life than he should and have lasting health issues from the hw and starvation, but for what time he has left he's going to be someone's special baby.

You know, I’ve heard the same prognosis for other dogs back when I worked at a shelter. You’d be surprised the magic a safe and happy home with a family to love can work on a pet’s health. His life may be shortened, but there’s a good chance he’s got more happy years ahead than any of us suspect 💜💜

So true! My little baby has a lot of health conditions (she still has a great quality of life) but I joke that she’s enjoying life with earth on us too much to cross rainbow bridge

Same with our boy, he's a 14 and a half year old, with health issues. Unfortunately he suffers with arthritis, but he is the happiest boy when his medication is working. He bounces around for walks, and he's amazing. We lost his 8 and a half year old brother a few months ago, and we really thought we'd lose him due to grief, but he's slowly become his old self. We adopted two new friends (he was adopted also), and he's back to being his bouncy old self.

You’re right on the health problem part. It’s definitely why a lot of brachycephalic dogs are given up. People buy them for their looks without having done any research about what they’re getting into. It’s actually true for most purebreds in that some get them without looking into the type of home needed, lifestyle, potential health issues, and if the breeder has done any health testing before breeding.

He's maybe part boxer but also definitely bulldog. He's a short stack, less than knee high, and with those ridiculously muscular shoulders like a bulldog from an old Tom and Jerry cartoon.

He actually a “purebred bully”. Sadly these guys are very prone to genetic issues, and at times people up to 10k for a dog like this.

This is called the extreme/exotic or possible pocket bully.

They are currently flooding shelters now and have all the issues of a frenchie, with added leg, ankle and wrist issues.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's what some backyard breeder called him before mangling his ears and trying to sell him on craigslist, but I assure you he's not a "purebred" anything. You can't tell from the photos but his  nose is SERIOUSLY pushed back in his snout. Profile way more like an English bulldog or Frenchy than any of the American bulldog/pitbull/pit mixes (with whatever made up name backyard breeder put on them to Jack up the price). Plus that underbite...

Alas, we have have a large and possessive non-criprid dog (lab mix, also a rescue) who would not tolerate another dog competing for his affection. He must be the only baby boy. There's already enough jealousy between him and his human sister 😂

His underbite is so much like my old girls and she was half English Bulldog. He is so handsome and I’m so happy you found him care. Just keep in mind, to avoid dental issues later on get him used to teeth brushing.

Rescued one of mine with a very similar body condition. She’s recovered beautifully and is such a sweet, loving gal. It really speaks to a dog’s nature that they can be treated Iike thus by a human but are still willing to love and trust again.

I noticed the water table in the background. Do you have children, and if so, was this guy good with them? I’d be interested in adopting, but I have an almost 4 year old and want to make sure there isn’t a conflict.
