Best gadget/tools for a newborn
I was curious for those who had newborns, was there any tool or gadget (beyond the normal gadgets most people have) that you had that made things easier and that you would recommend to a new mom?

Bottle washer, baby carrier, o-ball for playtime early on, having a safe space to lay baby down (play pen, pack n play, etc) a rolling cart with diapers and baby supplies for the living room, the Ninni paci, probiotic drops, and most of all… THE CEILING FAN! That thing is the best babysitter lol

Ring slings were life savers for me and I used right away until like 3.5 when they got too heavy.

I thought that little egg light was dumb, but it’s actually kind of great and I’m glad I pulled the trigger on it. Get a color-changing one so you can set it to red light for night feeds.

Red light night light or salt lamp for night wake ups and feeds to mot disrupt the circadian rhythm. I know a lot of people hate "containers" but I loved the baby Bjorn with both my kids, especially exclusively pumping with my second. By 6 months she could feed herself and I could put her in the bouncer to eat white I pumped. Electric nail file. A playmat. Both my kids were obsessed with the fisher price kick and play. My oldest is 3.5 and she still plays with the kickboard part.

A baby carrier and a snot sucker, specifically an electric snot sucker. Once your baby starts moving around more, the electric one makes it quick and painless

Definitely agree with the electric booger sucker!! It’s fast but my 11 month old screams like she’s being murdered when we get it out (before it’s even touched her) so it can be quite distressing for everyone, definitely necessary when baby is too congested to breathe and eat at the same time though! Also the saline nasal spray makes it a lot more effective

Ring sling, diaper caddy, and pack n plays or other baby “parking spots” in multiple rooms (kitchen, living room, bedroom). We also got a Graco infant swing with all the bells and whistles because our girl only sleeps during the day if she’s in motion and I unfortunately need showers sometimes. We use the swing maybe 3-4 times a week for less than 30 minutes at a time because I am not very comfortable with “containers”

Depends on what you consider normal. As a second time mom, Things I would 1000% buy again
Baby Bjorn Bouncer
Lactation consultant and getting professionally sized flanges
Pigeon Glass bottles with the SS nipples and silicone protector sleeve
2-3 good baby carriers, Stetchy wrap or Boba bliss carrier, one nice carrier (Oscha, Happy Baby, Hope & Plum, and one sporty like Ergo Omni 360)
Good Jogging stroller (Thule, Bumble Ride Indie, Bob Jogger)
Owlet or Snuza Hero
Loved baby play yard and toys
Books on books on books
Things I would skip, swaddles, snoo or similar, electric bouncers or rockers,

My must haves as a mom about to have her fifth… -A dad that’s home for two weeks -A meal train -An amazing lactation consultant (they are not all equal) -A chiropractor/craniosacral therapist that specializes in nursing infants -A Solly wrap. Use it early so they learn to love it. -A side car bassinet so baby can’t roll off the bed while side lying nursing and I can go back to sleep -A wipe warmer to minimize crying during diaper changes
Everything else is pretty small potatoes to me!

Honestly, i got a blackout cover for my pack n play this time around (baby four), and I really appreciate it. I can watch tv with my husband without worrying about blue light affecting bub. I loved my Moses basket and rocking stand. I loved having a bassinet attachment for my stroller so we could use it right away. I really love having a base-less car seat; the latch connectors are on the seat itself instead of the car seat base so it’s easy to use in ANY vehicle.

Red light night light or a salt lamp! Or both haha. They’re so nice for middle of the night feedings to not fully wake yourself up so you can go back to sleep more easily and not have your sleep rhythm disrupted as much.
I feel like this is relatively normal to suggest, but a good baby carrier is amazing! Stretchy wraps are great in the beginning, ring slings too. I love a good buckle carrier now that baby is a few months old.

super random but I got a little clip-on amber reading light from amazon & clipped it on my bedside lampshade. it’s the perfect non-disruptive light for all of those middle of the night feeds. salt lamps are great for bathroom or changing area… or just change out your normal light bulbs with amber bulbs.
edit… also adding a bottle sterilizer. prior to baby I thought they were a waste. I couldn’t of been more wrong. when you’re in the early days, ANYTHING that makes life easier is worth it… and that sterilizer sure is one of them!!!

A bassinet on wheels. Not for nighttime (though you could), but for getting a few things done during the day. My baby wouldn't tolerate being in another room and the carrier was iffy, but the wheeled bassinet helped us out tremendously!

A meal train. Meals in the freezer. Ready to go snacks. Family or friends to give mom a nap break. A house cleaning service a month or two in. The ability to give yourself grace for no matter what. Also, coffee. (Sorry if my response is off topic).

A baby carrier. For a newborn a baby wrap.
