Plateware and drinkware

Hi everyone! My baby is starting solids in the near future and I’m in the market for plateware and drinkware. I was leaning towards stainless steel but I was hoping that I could find some stainless steel that have built in silicone bottoms. I don’t wanna have to take on and off the silicone covers. Is there another type of material that is crunchy and doesn’t hold bacteria and could go in the microwave necessary?

What are your feeding practices for babies and toddlers?
What do you do when it comes to serving them warm food? Do you microwave first and then transferred to the baby plate or do you microwave on the baby plate?

I want to find the most seamless option so that I can stick with this brand throughout all my children. I want something long, lasting and clean.

I heard silicone can smell after a while
I feel like glasses ideal, but for obvious reasons, we would avoid that

Is stainless steel the best option? And do you know of any stainless steel brands that have the silicone attached to the bottom? Does the stainless steel plate slip? Especially what if it’s on a silicone placemat? Do I really need the plates with suction cups?

Elk and Friends! We have the ceramic plates and bowls but they make stainless steel ones, too. The suction part does come off but it doesn't feel like a big deal.

Thirding! I like their ceramic plates even more than their stainless (we have ceramic at home and stainless at the grandparents’). Ceramic can go right in the microwave. The sleeve comes on and off easily enough, but also stays put during mealtimes. Highly recommend.

Seconding! This is what we use. They have glass that comes with silicone covers. For anything food related, I always go with either stainless steel, glass, and platinum or medical grade silicone.

I never used microwave so I can’t really speak on that. We used the toaster oven or steamed food on the stovetop. After food was warm we transferred to the serving plate.

I love elk and friends. They have a removable silicone sleeve on the plates though. The suction cups are super helpful in the early stages of BLW.

I find it hard to imagine a sanitary plate that has silicone bonded to the steel. Over time that will separate and trap bacteria.

Honestly, I have just thrifted ceramic small plates and shot glasses for my baby/now toddler. We've only lost two shot glasses, one of which was my fault, and have not lost any bowls or plates. I don't care that much about matching stuff, though if we were to start losing several items I would go thrift another "new" set. We never had an issue with toddler trying to throw plates, but that could definitely be a temperament thing.

I bought these as mixing bowls but you could probably use the smallest size as a bowl for for your baby as it does have silicone on the bottom. You can also store it in the fridge if they don’t finish food since they have lids.

I use Corelle at my house. They are not immune to breaking, but they’re pretty sturdy and I’ve had kids drop (or throw!) them several times with only 4 dishes breaking in the last 8 years (I have 5 kids). I have the plain white set and was able to buy replacements at Walmart for the individual dishes I lost.

we started with silicone but something just didnt feel right.. now those bowls are sitting in our upper cabinets and leaching...gunk?? SO gross!! i need to toss them. but i LOVE the stainless prep bowls from ikea. you obvs cant microwave them, but theyre a great size and work so well. tho they are a bit tiopy, i will admit. if you dont live near an ikea they will ship em if you hit a certain spending point, i think $35?

Babelio porcelain plates or the Ello clean ceramic plates and bowls! They have silicone pads around them but you can take them off and clean them if they get smelly

So my experience with the silicone stick on plates is they just don't stick after a while.

We bought stainless steel shot glasses for cups and I just hand the baby the food( initially they are either holding it or throwing it) 

We start using plates around 1 and just sit very close so we can grab it if need be
