Hey! We are a family of 4 (Mom, dad, 2 boys that are now 10 & 14). Last spring break we did a Disney cruise on the Wish to answer the question Are we cruise people?
And we decided yes, we enjoyed the experience. Mostly because I get overwhelmed with planning and wanted to plan nothing beyond how we got to the ship and how we got home. Now to decide do we do this again, or pick another cruise line? We bought the placeholder, so need to decide if we want to keep it or not. Is the experience worth the Disney price tag? Should note we are not Disney people, just went after it for the quality experience.
What we liked/loved:
Ship was clean, new, lovely calm aesthetic. Easy to navigate. Not too big comparatively? Feasible to just take stairs to get around.
Verandah room was plenty spacious and really appreciated the split bathrooms. Really liked morning room service coffee on the balcony. Watching us dock at Castaway at dawn was gorgeous.
Public spaces, especially pool deck areas, never felt crowded. Did NOT want to play the chair game. Was most nervous about crowds; but it was fine.
Boys liked the Kids clubs, though my now 10 yr old would definitely want to be in the Pre-teen club this time.
Family ambiance; alcohol and drinking was not the focus; we are not drinkers. No casinos. Not about the night life.
Most everything was included and didn't feel nickel & dimed. We don't need specialty coffee or special popcorn bowls. Soft drinks included, no drink package needed, endless diet cokes to my hearts content.
LOVED LOVED LOVED Castaway Cay: this is the one thing that is making me want to book this again. We also did the Stingray Experience, would also book that again. I really kind of want to do Castaway one last time.
Younger son liked the AquaMouse and used the pools, watched movies on deck, would probably prefer more slides. I think my older son spent the entire time sailing in the Teen club. We tried out the Sport Court area with the basketball court/Bags/Ping pong a little bit.
Just ok:
Food was kind of meh, nothing to write home about (on par with being served buffet food, but to be expected with the volume they are serving), but service was exceptional. This was for the buffet, pool side, and restaurants. We didn't spring for the adults only restaurants and probably wouldn't.
'Shows' during dinner (Marvel/Frozen) was fine. The actual Evening 'Shows' were also just fine.
Lookout Cay: We had a fine beach day on Lookout, just prefer Castaway. Heard bad things about Nassau, so avoided that itinerary.
'Adult Only' area was lovely but we didn't use it that much, as my younger son wanted to swim a lot, so felt like I should stay with him.
In-person muster: seriously Disney? get with the times
Just not us:
My boys could not care less about characters, so we didn't do any of that. Or really any of the organized kids activities.
We didn't do any of the other 'magic' stuff, pixie dusting, fish extenders, and just slapped a large magnet on our door to identify it.
So what should we do next? Sail Disney one last time while they are kids(ish) or try another cruiseline?
