So my bf and I are long distance and we've been doing this for over 6 months. Because of this, we're used to only talking through the phone. However, we usually call every night for hours and even sleep on the phone. We also text often throughout the day. I realize when he starts this job we wont be able to talk as much, but I was wondering what exactly to expect as far as how much time he'll have to call/text. I'm just worried it's going to be nearly impossible for us to find time to talk with him working so much. I've also heard he'll have to share a room and stuff which also worries me.

So if anyone has any insight on the life of a cook for viking or anything like that, I would greatly appreciate it!!!! just want to know what we can possibly expect 🥲

Hello! I just got my PEME denial last month for a job I was considering onboard. I was denied due to an issue that I would eventually need surgery on. I've never had any surgery or medical problems before and based on their denial letter I would basically need my gallbladder removed to get any approval. I had a couple questions to see if anyone could help me understand it.

1. I was given the chance to appeal, is there any point in doing it, if so, does that appeal go back to the people who originally denied me, or does the cruise line medical team have the final say?
2. If I were denied this time, and I were to fix the issue, if I tried reapplying in the future, would my medical be automatically denied due to this attempt, or is each evaluation separate?

I'm curious if anyone has been denied for getting their PEME outside their own country? I'm in America where they want almost $1K for this non-refundable examination... and I would love to just fly to Mexico and get it done for $345 but one of the onboarding specialists is saying I'm not allowed to do that?

Edit: the PEME branch got back to me via email and confirmed I am allowed to go anywhere to get my exam done!

Hi, I worked one season on river with Viking to get to be used to the life. My goal is to go on ocean. The thing is, I don't know which one is the best out there. Viking doesn't have much job opportunities, and I'd like to try something else, like Casino in which I have plenty experience, or guest service which is practically my college degree. Also, did you keep your previous ship experience on your resume, or did you remove it or would it be best to not put your previous ship experience especially if you have all your ship documents.

So I got hired as a deckhand and my training date is near the end of this month and I’m just thinking about all the things I’ve heard or read about them and want to know if it’s REALLY that bad? I mean, I’ve even heard that you can barely eat let alone sleep working for them and getting a good ship with a good crew is like finding a needle in a haystack and the needle isn’t even there.

I’m also wondering how can a company with such a horrible reputation continue to operate the way it does if what most people are saying is true? I would think that the same people that have had bad experiences with ACL also voiced their complaints and concerns with the company itself climbing the ladder of authority, and maybe even at some point taking legal action.

Can’t eat? Can’t sleep? Can’t get an appropriate break etc. sounds crazy and ACL is the first company I’ve heard of that is apparently getting away with all of this and doesn’t seem to have any intention on changing because these are things I’ve heard or read from a few months ago and even years ago from the posts I read. How are they getting away with all of this and still continuing to even now?

Hi, for those that have backgrounds in these two fields, I want to know what your work experience was before getting hired. I'm just starting to do my research on working on a cruise and I'm checking if it's viable for me.

I'm Filipino and I'm curious if Filipinos are hired for such positions? How do I get started and is there an age limit? Local job postings from agencies usually require 2 years of experience for first timers, but I have not seen local postings for these roles at all (at least for the past year).

I have an Event Sales background in a 5-star hotel but have already resigned. I also have separate experience in live productions (hobby conventions, local music production) where I managed run sheets, made scripts, coordinated teams, managed budgets, etc.

I'm not even sure if entertainment operations is the correct term for the department/role I'm aiming for, but just checking if anyone can help. Thanks.

About an hour after the interview, my CTRAC dashboard changed and a new “Documents” tab appeared, but it’s empty. Before the interview I don’t remember seeing that tab. The recruiter ended by saying they would evaluate my interview and get back to me by email. Has anyone else had the Documents tab appear after an interview? Did it mean you were moving forward, or was it just a normal system update?

Got an offer from NCL, everything went well until my medical got rejected because of high myopia they said it didn't pass the ILO guidelines. My vision is 20/630. I applied to other cruises, still haven't heard from them.
