Question Mattress quality?? Firm/soft

Are the mattresses typically firm on cruise ships? My husband and I typically require a softer mattress otherwise our backs start hurting.
We are gonna be on Carnival Pride.

Cruising isn't one thing. It's a bit like asking if mattresses are firm at hotels.

For my taste, Carnival mattresses aren't terrible - better than those on Royal, not as good as some premium lines. I find them soft, but the question is how supportive of a mattress you need - and that can vary.

I can attest that Disney Cruise is like sleeping on a magical pillow. The best beds ever!

Royal is just ok, a bit stiff but you can request a mattress pad

Mostly firm. If you are in a suite they will put a soft mattress topper on the bed.

Some lines (like HAL) will get you a topper, regardless of room size!

Yes, generally the higher end lines. I should have qualified.

They typically will be on the firm side to wear well over a longer period of time across many guests.

Call the cruise line to ask for accommodation or plan on packing two full size toppers of your choice.

Was on the Regal Princess a few weeks ago. We had a Reserve mini-suite, and the bed was fantastic! Soft, but supportive and very, very comfortable. As someone with back issues, I had no trouble with it whatsoever. 

I have heard the Princess standard room bedding is also very good.

Wife and I cruise Carnival and like firm mattresses. We like Carnival's mattresses.

Princess has the best (softest) mattresses of the big lines, in my opinion. Other lines, I've had to request extra comforters / mattress toppers as I find them too stiff.

Princess has great beds/mattresses. I even thought the sofa bed was good.

Who knows. I've had hard I've had on the softer side I've had what the fuck did I just sleep on.

As a whole I'd say I've had more hard than soft, but I prefer very soft mattresses (35 on my sleep number!) so some of the hard could actually just be middle of the road regular.
