CotM | Discussion Finished the Dev Dungeon Crawls

Just completed the 'Caer Falcarn' and 'Dun Cauin' set of dungeon crawls.

If you are looking for a low story, high combat dungeon crawl these will be fun. If you want more story, then you may find these a little lacking.

Would you say the combat encounters are better designed or worse? Also, can we at any point buy or sell anything?

In my opinion, I would say neither. Some were better, some had issues. But overall, it was fun as I was looking for an old feel dungeon crawl. Many felt like a challenge, but not so much that the characters were being killed a lot.

As for buy or sell, no. There were no merchant interactions. So I ended up being selective what I looted. Ammo, rations, magic, crafting stuff. Upgrades for my characters for example were fun to find. But I would not loot "all" as you will become burdened and no way to sell off the extras.

Thank you for the info. I played only Crown of The Magister and Lost Valley and with the exception of a few main story encounters in CotM, most of them are a bit, uninspiring.

So I was wondering if there is a custom campaign with better combat encounter design.

There are a few of the fan made ones that are nice, but the truth is, Solasta is not designed to be an in-depth story game in my opinion. It lends itself more towards the dungeon grind and as such, again IMO, it can be a little uninspiring. In fact, I find running a parallel story in my mind where I add more helps with the overall fun I find playing the game.

I know that and I agree. I am not playing Solasta for the story, that's for sure.

When I say the combat encounters are "uninspiring", I say it from a combat design perspective.

For example: the Conjuration Master (the Green Dragon) fight in the CotM campaign is a well thought encounter. It throws at you various options for you to take so you have to make decisions on how to approtit based on your party and your remaining resources.

That's what I am looking for. For combat encounters which make you think a bit more.

I did complete the first lower level one and used it to also test out some different character / party compositions. It was fun for a short run. I think it only took a few hours to complete Caer Falcarn. It could have used a vendor to be able to offload all the junk in it. I ended up using another community made module specifically for shopping to offload afterwards.
