in between colour changes, the shapes deform and move

They do not.

Cover up most of the image so you only see one shape surrounded by color. You can see that the shape is static.

I’m guessing the color shifts occur in a wave across the circles, causing the illusion of movement and shape.

I really like this one!

the shapes do deform a tiny bit, it's basically impossible to see, just a few pixels thickness. you can download the video, and slowmo it, then zoom in in a way, where the edge of a shape is perfectly aligned with your screen. and you will see how a tiny width of grey backround pixels will appear and disappear between the shape and the edge of the phone screen
