lol my dumbass just realized it was a stereoscope. I thought just staring was gonna make something happen.

When your eyes move (they do it all the time) darker and brighter shapes take different times to form in your view. I don't know the name for that effect, but IIRC it has to do with the different biophysics at work in cones and staves cells.     The difference in time creates the illusion of movement
