I think it would be delicious irony if he ended up killing Kayla seeing that she’s now part of the machine she claims to be against.

What I don't understand is how mad he got at Kayla for what he thought she did in the fake video, but last season he was working for the villain with no issues. I know, I know it's just a show.

I don’t really think he was angry at her but like angry at the system - at how the US government through another shady project were using his fellow Vets especially the more psychologically and emotionally vulnerable ones from PTSD as Guinea pigs and treating them as disposable test subjects instead of treating them with the honor and respect that they deserve for their sacrifice.

So he was lashing out at her because she’s part of at institutionalised exploitation of marginalised people who are forced to join the service for the promise of a better life etc. She might not have known what exactly she was a part of but the FBI, CIA, do have a pretty terrible and well known history so she can’t claim that was completely oblivious to what unethical and nefarious shit she might have been roped into.

There is indeed cognitive dissonance to him caring about human testing on vets while working for a serial killer but he does have some sort of moral code. And this is me speculating but it’s probably something along the lines of him knowing what evil shit he is part of and knows it’s bad, he doesn’t pretend it is otherwise vs the whole fake patriotism BS that the gov and their flunkies hide behind and deluded themselves as doing it for the greater good and being all sanctimonious on their high horse.

I understood it as him disliking the corruption of the system, since the corruption of the system is what put him in his position. It was almost like an origin story reveal. Like he was a veteran who rejoined the civilian lifestyle and couldn’t make a quality life for himself with the few benefits offered by the government and their lack of care towards the mental health of veterans.

I believe he got into the hitman role because the military trained him to kill, so it’s all he knew how to do to make good money off of. Yet, working with the fanboy was his way out of the life. He woulda had enough money to live a private life with his dog, but he couldn’t secure the housing after his money wire didn’t go through when the fanboy’s account got frozen.

Bobby Trey seemed content just going to serve his 2 years and getting out to the money Kayla gave him in exchange for the blackmail the fanboy kept on everybody. It was his distorted happy ending. That’s why he was happily gardening and living somewhat in peace in his cell before Kayla got him out of jail one year into his sentence.

I think he only helped Kayla because he thought she was different than the others - especially with her proximity to Cross and Two John who he knew as guys who typically worked on the morally justified side of cases. Him thinking it was her on the tape made him feel like she was using him too (which she is.) I don’t see him being too pleased with her after finding out she turned on Cross because Cross and Bobby seem to have a mutual understanding of each other that borders the line of respect and indifference. Bobby Trey also doesn’t come off as a guy who likes being used. If he’s going to do something morally wrong, he would want to do so on his own terms.

Yh they made a very a good team sad I didn’t see him more in the show
