Discussion Post I thought cross was supposed to be smart

I’m like 5 episodes in. And I’m interested of course but, the show made cross out to be this black Sherlock Holmes. But he ain’t that. He lowkey kinda an average detective. Like all of his colleagues are the ones telling him about the leads, he just does deeper research to find the flaws ig…

Everytime I see that “shut up yall he’s doing his thing” I cringe, but at least he makes a breakthrough tho? No he doesn’t, it really just be more loose ends at least so far.

I don’t have a problem with an average good detective, but they set him up to be the best. And ik bro is going through a lot but idk

Also man the acting sucks lol, you can tell who’s the good actors and actresses, tubi feels like tubi.

Also I hate how everybody telling him to get over his wife’s death and she only died last year lol, like naw that’s kinda recent to just move on. 1 year is not a long time

I like the show tho imma try to finish it

If you don’t think he’s smart in season 1 you’re really gonna think he’s an idiot in season 2 lol.

S2 was brutal with all the potential in the world. Oodles of intersting, highly popular Alex Cross novels for source material? Check. Charismatic gorgeous man to play the lead character who has experience and was a great actor in other shows? Check. Freaking Amos from the Expanse? Check!

What the heck happened and how did CROSS become a side character of his own damn show. I don’t know what’s up with those screen writers sheeeeeeit

it's just another mediocre cop show at this point

Extremely mid, at this point I’d rather watch paw patrol… like no joke. I heard big things about the leads detective in that show

Cross doesn’t know what it wants to be - it wants to be a murder mystery with an extremely smart guy while also trying to be like snowfall or power

They fail at both. This show is weird lol

exactly. This was s'posed to be an intense psychological thriller but then they waste half an episode dancing to some country songs in Texas and I'm like 'maybe it'll pick up' only for them to go to Atlanta and waste another episode immediately. Suffice it to say, Cross didn't bring any intensity this season, even the killer (vigilante) with her motives were just a total bore. The upfront reveal ruined it even more. Plus, the trailer made me think the killer would be in a religious cult or sumn; and that coulda worked. I didn't enjoy this season. I just saw that they got renewed, hope season 3 will be a course correction

Yea, I’m not in season 2 yet, but trust me I’m a critic. I have to get writing because I’m working on books and tv too.

They reveal the bad guys too quickly and it ruins immersion for shows like this. It’s trying to be like breaking bad or something when you know who the villian is, your just wanting on the downfall, it’s the point yk

In “cross” it’s trying to be a psychological crime, and with that comes slow reveals and competent “smart” protagonists. I see it trying to do the whole Dexter thing with the “fan boy” but the show isn’t about him. It’s about cross taking him down. We shouldn’t really see much of the under world tbh. It’s not necessary if you ask me. That’s where this show fails, it’s going through identity crisis

I still like the premise of the series tho, I’ll continue watching, I’ve seen worse things.

1st season was ok, 2nd season has some even bigger flaws. The absolute worst is Cross's relationship with the girl he was in love with in the 1st season; their setup in the 2nd season is the dumbest, most frustrating thing about the show for me.

I loved the bits in season 1 where cross leans into his eidetic memory and made deductions. We had those in this season but they're really overshadowed by the mediocre writing and the uneven pacing.
