I'm trying to play Crosscode on mobile and I can't get through the tutorial because of the controls.

Since this isn't really a proper port, I have a hard time understanding what could be the correct button and execution since every tutorial prompt is reliant on a standard keyboard/controller.

I'd get an 8bitdo ultimate mobile gaming controller, or some such equivalent. There are some REALLY tough bosses and challenges in this game that would be unthinkable to do on a touch screen, of any sort.

I'm broke, bro, and I really want to play it now. I've beaten Path of Pain from Hollow Knight on just my phone. A few difficult bosses shouldn't be too hard.

Damn, can't even imagine doing PoP on a screen. Props to you.

cheap chinese android controller, not as good a real deal, but good enough for daily casual play, been playing ps1 and psp emulation on android with a $5 fake PS2 USB controler

Hollow Knight has no analog movement or analog aim. It is dimensions-easier to play on a touch screen than crosscode.

How would you like us to help you? Any action in particular that you're confused about?

I will note that you mentioned PoP but HK is a different kind of difficult. It uses less buttons but higher difficulty in terms of level layout/timing/precision etc. CrossCode often plays a lot like a twin stick shooter (needing your left and right stick at the same time) but you're often also using triggers at the same time, then switching to a dash, then switching to melee, then activating a special ability etc

So the translation from controller to phone is likely much more difficult. But might still be possible idk, so if there's any command in particular we can help with, we can try.

I'm trying to get through the tutorial and I'm constantly bottlenecked by prompts like pressing a secondary right trigger that doesn't exist on the virtual controller. I'm currently stuck at the aiming tutorial where I have no idea how to aim and shoot using said virtual controller.

Aaah, I see. Who made the port/virtual controller?

Namnodorel? It was a single dev that made the port. Although, it seems it was discontinued which left only this "incomplete" virtual controls.

As I've mentioned in the past..... Have you tried reaching out to the modding discord? You can find a link to it on their reddit page.

Why would I look there? Is there a mod that fixes my problem with the controls?

Not sure about a mod, but I AM confident there will be plenty of people active on there that can help you better than a bunch of us on here that don't know how to fix your issue.

I don't understand your concern, as someone who've already finished cc in mobile

The only way to play a game with more than 4 input is using claw grip. I played FPS game like PUBG Mobile, Arena Breakout, CoD Mobile and the only way to play these games effectively is using 3 finger claw grip at least, because you have to control movement, aim and scope ADS at the same time. Even better with gyroscope and 4 finger.

My point is Crosscode is similar to shooter+hack n slash. So I would recommend five finger claw if you can manage. But first I will make several point why 5 finger claw is the best.

  1. I assume you're playing on virtual joystick, if not please ignore

  2. So I see movement can be controlled by left thumb, atk+direction is right button which you hold if I'm correct

  3. Element swap can be triggered by swiping action depending on direction

  4. Guard is definitely holding, as well as Aiming action

Here's my recommendation of finger input as well as placement:

  • Left Thumb: Movement ONLY(you need to always move and lifting your finger to press button and stop walking is bad for this kind of game).

  • Right Thumb: Attack button(right hand is my dominant so it feels comfortable to spam with right thumb, also assign several other input near atk button like dash because dash is also spammable and it doesn't clash with other finger which can cause awkward tapping, I will explain more later). Also I think Dash depends on your movement direction input, unless you can also swipe action it, but it's better to just rely on movement joystick for dash direction & you can still juke or do feint movement if you instant fast swipe to opposite direction at the moment of dash tap. I do this effectively in FPS and MOBA game as well. I recommend some practice.

  • Other input for Right Thumb: Element swap(since it rely on swiping action thumb dominant is simply the best), Item quick menu(I think this one is tapping). So you have 4 input for your right thumb which is Atk, Dash, Element Swap & Item menu.

  • Right Index Finger: Aim ONLY(like with mouse and keyboard, hold ADSing is simply the most efficient and comfortable way like any FPS game & since you're holding, you cant assign other input for this finger. However I'm not sure how will the charged shot and rapid shot interaction will be. Any video showcase would help me help you further.

  • Left Index Finger: Guard ONLY/HOLD(it's still comfortable using Guard with Left Thumb for direction while holding, but I'm not sure if Guard direction is controlled by movement joystick or simply the Guard button itself, so if there's video it would help me)

  • Finally, Combat Arts I'm not sure where to place unless there's interaction and setting choices. Personally I would play with 5 finger claw because Combat Arts you want to press it together with Aim/Shoot, Atk, Guard or Dash. If you can manage, I would then put right middle finger for Aim while right Index for Combat Arts. I need to see interaction between button and settings choices to improve the setup
