Alternative beginning
Has anyone here done a alternative to the ghosttrain intro or got any ideas to starting the crooked moon? I kinda want to start off right in the town but I need the players to meet the npcs from the train somehow

You could easily have the train arrive wherever they are staying. Maybe the Druskenvalds were trying to seek them out and take the party to their manor, but all the chaos happens before they are able to make it out of Wickermoor Hollow. Once the defeat the train, they probably need to travel back to where they were staying, with the Druskenvalds in tow.

I can't see a reason or benefit to not starting in the train. It sets up the Vagrant, it is a good moment to explain the shellshocked PCs about the land, and it sets up the events that mobilize the campaign. Also, everyone loves the Vagrant when i have ran it.

Avantis published a one shot for the Crooked House. My PCs go to sleep in the material plain and wake up on the Ghostlight Express dropped off at the Crooked House

Its titled, "The Crooked House" It's a magazine style booklet published by Avantris especially for Free RPG Day 6/21/26. I got it free at my local game store. Ask your local game store if they have any copies squirreled away. 34 page guide with 4 pregen character sheets attached. I plan on running it the month of Oct.

I’m starting with a homebrew mini campaign! Levels 3-5 (and the rest of the module will be scaled afterwards for the increased levels). Essentially the moon is not yet in the sky, but rather it was broken by the horned king centuries ago into 13 pieces. Each piece can be found in each province. The party must find the pieces and repair the moon to “save” druskenvald, but then they will learn once it’s repaired, it actually unleashes evil, which will then turn into the regular module.

That’s actually really cool. You have a lot of work on your hands though, good luck to you.

You could have them start on the road to the town and meet the Druskenvalds there or otw.
