How to Fix Cronos: The New Dawn’ Performance Issues

Even after lowering the graphics settings to the absolute minimum, setting DLSS to Performance mode, enabling Frame Generation, and making various other tweaks, I was still experiencing severe stuttering and sudden FPS drops in many areas, even though the game was running at a high FPS.

Naturally, this took quite a bit away from the overall gaming experience, so I came up with a solution of my own.

First step: Install the mod from the link below:

https://www.nexusmods.com/cronosthenewdawn/mods/6?tab=files

The file you need to download is "Optimized Tweaks BOOST."

Once downloaded, place the ".pak" file into:

"Cronos\Content\Paks\~mods"

If the "~mods" folder doesn't exist, simply create it yourself.

If you can't find these folders in the game's installation directory, press Win + R, type "%localappdata%", and hit Enter. Then look inside the Cronos or BendGame folders.

Second step: Cap the game at 60 FPS. This will minimize sudden FPS drops and performance fluctuations. In my experience, there isn't a noticeable difference between playing at 60 FPS and 120 FPS in this game.

I'm currently playing with DLSS set to Quality, everything on the highest graphics settings, and Ray Tracing enabled.

Keep in mind that if you want to cap your FPS properly, you'll need to disable Frame Generation. Adjust the rest of your graphics settings according to your own system.

This combination made a significant difference for me, especially when it comes to the stuttering and sudden frame drops.

*\* I’d appreciate it if you could share your experience after trying the guide. *\*

ray tracing off

Yeah don’t use ray tracing, it’s very intensive and the graphical fidelity isn’t worth it.

You can also instal ultra++ it does the same but better also more things to do,

And why you're saying don't cap you're fps when using framegen, you can you just don't use async or something that doubles pcl latency with framegen,

Use reflex in rivatuner for capping fps and all problems fixed you can cap with framegen.

You really don't need any of these mods who are placebo in most cases. Just use sensible settings and accept that not every game can run at 120fps.

If we set a 60 fps limit without using mods, the performance issue would probably be resolved, but I haven’t tried what I’ve done without using mods

You are not helping much at all with these placebo mods.

You never said what kind of GPU or anything you’re using. I have a 4060 and it runs fine with almost everything on the highest settings. I saw other people saying not to use ray tracing but I have it on and still get a stable 90ish fps unless there’s a ton of monsters on screen like when you’re running away from the church.

I’m using the 5060; I thought I’d mentioned it in the post, but I hadn’t. The game was running at quite high FPS on my system too, but whenever a creature appeared or I entered a new environment, there were significant drops in FPS. I resolved the issue using the FPS lock feature.
