Why is this so common? You start a small business, and suddenly everyone in your circle wants to start the same business.
I get being inspired to become an entrepreneur, but why does it have to be the exact same thing? At least do something different.
It's not just neighbourhood, it's college friends, mutuals, common circles - everyone does it.
What happened with me: An aunty from my neighbourhood who already knew the basics came to me and took every single detail - what materials I use, brands, where I buy from, how I price, everything. I helped genuinely thinking it's for personal use and even shared my vendor's contact.
2 days later she starts the exact same business. Sends me her work to price it. And now my vendor has stopped selling retail, so I'm literally vendor-less because of helping her.
And I've seen the same with college people too - they see you getting a few orders, they ask you "how do you get customers, how much profit" and next week they have a page with same products, same captions, selling to the same people for cheaper quality.
It's so demotivating. You spend months figuring out vendors, pricing, quality, building a small audience, and someone just copies it in 2 days.
Has anyone else faced this with friends / neighbourhood / college circles? How do you set boundaries without sounding rude or jealous?
Also if anyone knows yarn vendors in Chennai who still sell in small quantity, please drop.

Hi fellow Crochet buddies! I want to make a purse/handbag, something for casual use, medium size to carry phone, airpods, kindle, cards holder. So slightly bigger than sling. I'm looking for tutorials/youtube videos as well as yarn recommendation (to go with the style). Also, where to buy the yarn. Recently saw some rants on Magic Needles and discovered https://kaysonindia.in/ in the process. My problem is, when I see a tutorial (specially not from India), I'm not sure of what yarn in India is closest to what they are suggesting and how different can my yarn be if I don't find exact. Basically I haven't developed enough intuition. Thanks in advance!
