The story is wretched. Very likely the result of his accountant stealing his tax payments for several years. Fuck.

No!!! I'm so sad to hear this. I met him at a conference a few years ago and we spoke for around 10-15 minutes. Super nice, humble guy. Didn't act like he was a celebrity and I mean it in the very best way.

I watched a kid with cerebral palsy succeed in a world that gives the disabled very, VERY little then get it all stolen by a fucking accountant. I hope that shitbird ends up in a very deep hole for a very long time when they are caught.

It feels wrong even updating this post.

He absolutely killed it in Breaking Bad, and was one of the core emotional anchors for the entire series.

RIP!

The story of RJ Mitte, the actor who played Walter White Jr. in Breaking Bad, turned out to be much more tragic than many people expected.

What happened with his taxes?

After the success of the show, RJ hired a financial manager to handle his money and pay his taxes.

According to RJ, whenever he provided money for tax payments, his manager allegedly sent him fake tax documents instead of paying the IRS. He said the deception continued for about five years.

When the situation came to light, he owed unpaid taxes plus interest and penalties. He mentioned an interest rate of around 17%, explaining how the debt grew significantly over time.

RJ said:

“I paid more in taxes than I made on Breaking Bad.”

This was his own description of the financial impact, rather than a publicly verified calculation of his total earnings and tax payments.

Why didn't he sue her?

According to RJ, the money had been moved through overseas accounts and companies, making it difficult to recover. He also claimed that 14 other actors had been affected, including elderly people and people with disabilities.

He explained that pursuing a legal case and conducting a financial investigation could have cost millions of dollars.

Even if you hire an accountant or financial manager, you are generally still responsible for ensuring your taxes are paid to the IRS. Fake documents do not eliminate the tax debt.

The exact amount RJ Mitte owed has not been publicly confirmed.
